It’s no secret that KEF are one of our all time favourite hi-fi brands. And the higher up the range you go, the better! We’ve already banged on about the glorious The Reference range until we’re blue in the face, but it’s not often we get the chance to air our (rather high!) views on the beautiful Blades. Truly some of the most standout speakers in the industry, for many a reason. Both the Blades and the Blade 2s have plenty to offer, more than a short blog would usually allow – so we’ve put our heads together and come up with the 5 top reasons they are worth every penny of their (rather hefty!) price tag…

1. The Finishes

They come in a stunning range of colour options and gloss finishes, with limited editions cropping up all the time! There is even a colour match option for the 2s, so you can really make them yours!

2. The Design

Well, of course they look amazing. All the while being incredibly unique (and rather iconic, wouldn’t you say?). Almost as good as the KEF’s flagshipMuon but a hell of a lot cheaper (you can pick up a pair of those for a cool £125k). For real world money (and not a lot more than KEF Reference), you’re getting the next best thing to KEF’s flagship speaker!

3. The Sound

Simply stunning to behold, and even better to listen to. We adore the KEF Reference range, but  the Blade is something else all together. It boasts similarly exceptional clarity but still manages to grab you and bash you around with the type of bass that you can only get from a speaker of this level and performance. It’s somewhat other worldly, and something you ‘feel’ rather than simply ‘listen to’.

4. System Matching

This kind of thing can often go overlooked when you’re caught up in the excitement of a high-end speaker – but something that’s worth noting is the Blade and Blade 2s system matching is distinctly unfussy. These sound stunning with our Naim system (NAP300DR and NAC-N272 etc) but also sound stunning with Primare (e.g. A32 x 2 with A34.2) and Arcam. While there are better matches (we really like the Naim), they sound fantastic with everything (powerful enough, of course) that we’ve matched them with.

5. They’re Cool

They’re awesome. Just look at them. Then listen to them. What other “ultimate” speaker is there that is actually as cool as these? Yeah, I know all high-end speakers can pass as cool, but these bad boys actually are.

If you’re ever lucky enough to see them in the flesh, you’ll know what I mean.

… and yes, seeing them in the flesh is a real possibility. We have a pair of these beauties featured as the crown jewel in our showroom. Want to try them out? Give us a shout! We’ll set you up with a demo.

You won’t regret it.

Perhaps you should also consider Vivid Audio Giya – as the KEF blade came after the launch of the Giya, and uses similar acoustic techniques. That is why the Blade is a good speaker.
