Hey! Do you remember the Aego M 2.1 system? Arguably one of our most written (talked?) about speakers on this blog, namely because they’re a staff favourite. Upon they’re release they took up a position in our customer service office, and still remain there until this very day. Well, things are about to change. The Aego M has been reinvented after 5 long years of excellent service, and it’s better than it’s ever been!
Bring on: the Acoustic Energy Aego 3 2.1 Active speakers. You can probably understand why this is an important time for us, as well as one of our long term favourite brands (Acoustic Energy). The original Aego M has been the most popular 2.1 system we’ve ever sold, and it was probably the best desktop/PC speakers available during its (remarkably long) heyday too. Have the Aego 3 2.1s taken their place as well as you’d hope?
If you keep on top of your hi-fi stuff (I’m going to assume you do) you may have noticed that Acoustic Energy have been a little quiet lately, but a hi-fi brand usually goes quiet for a very good reason. In this instance, they were working on something pretty special: the release of two high-end (yet relatively budget) new systems, the aforementioned Aego 3 2.1 and a brand new soundbar, also called the Aego 3 (thanks AE!) which we’ll be going into in another blog. Two major releases at the same time after such a long period of silence usually makes for something pretty special, and this instance is no exception.
What made the original 2.1 system special boils down to two things: the size and the sound. The tiny satellite speakers (with a big sub to sit on the floor) made for a very minimal desk footprint, and I don’t need to tell you why that went down well. Soundwise, the two tiny satellites handled the mid range and top end beautifully (without any tinniness of which to speak) with the base gorgeously delivered by the under-desk sub. What the Aego M had, the Aego 3 has multiplied many times over. The size is the same, the price is the same as when its predecessor was released and the sound is even better and fresher with upgraded components and speakers which integrate even more beautifully with the sub than ever before.
It’s also worth noting that the exterior has had an upgrade too. The Aego M’s finish was pretty basic, but the new finish looks as high-end as its insides! Aluminium suits the new, fresh sound and it looks and feels sublime. Yes, £199 is a little on the pricier side of things (there isn’t really a competitor as a result), but these are genuine hi-fi speakers, miles ahead of even the closest competitor in a tiny desktop format. Best of all, their 2.1 nature makes them perfect for music, as well as movies and even games! If you spend a lot of time at your desk (as many of us do!) these are the speakers you need in your life. You won’t regret a penny.

Will the satellites have a bracket available for wall mounting as with the M wonder?
These are great, but honestly, after an A/B test with 5 other people, everyone preferred the older model!
I’ve got the AEGO M 3.1 (you could purchase a third speaker for mid) and I don’t think for their price (was around £120) you could still find anything similar. Clear and soild sound.
I am not sure about these ones. The look minimal (which I really like), but they give a sense of plastic from the photos. I am sure the sound quality will be excellent.
Can you suggest me some good mid range speakers for aego?
I’m being somewhat shameless but for another take on these speakers here’s a take on the 2.1 setup, they’re pretty sweet! https://youtu.be/4geWrwwq0Oo
