I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you have to keep your vinyl clean. Not doing so will cause all sorts of trouble. Not only will your sound suffer in the short term, but dirty vinyl will degrade, and playing it will ultimately damage the components of your turntable.
The thing is, when I say your vinyl has to be clean, I mean it has to be really clean. Like… clean on a microscopic level. That’s the only way to gurantee they are the kind of clean that will ensure they’ll last forever is getting them that clean. And try as you might with the many cloths, liquids and baths available… you’ll probably never get them as clean as they need to be. Well, not unless you invest (and I mean it when I use that word!) in this bad boy…
That right there is the Audio Desk Vinyl Cleaner – a Professional LP cleaning machine. And yes, that’s professional with a pretty chunky capital ‘P’! It costs an eye-popping £2095 – but believe me when I say this is very much a ‘when money is no object’ kinda thing to buy. Hopefully you’ll also have some records to clean, or at the very least have some pretty solid plans to get some in the future!
This is the big’un. One of the best (if not the best) cleaning machines money can buy, and what you get far exceeds even the closest competitor. They’re practically in separate universes! Yes, it’s pretty pricey (we only sell four cleaning machines, and the next closest is the Moth Mk III which is only £539, so you have an idea of the kind of scale we’re dealing with here!) but they are built with absolutely no consideration of cost, and with no concern about what it will cost the user – so you know it’s good.
… and it really is good! It features an ultra sonic cleaning action, which will potentially get rid of the tiny particles that cheaper machines won’t get. Basically it will clean to the nth degree with tiny micro movements (so tiny you can’t actually see them!). The result will be the cleanest your records will ever be – just like new. In fact, they’ll probably be better than new! No possibility of even the tiniest particle messing up your vinyl sound.
It’s very unlikely that you will ever have to make this investment more than once too. They are built like a battleship! While the competiors are well built, it’s worth noting that the cheaper ones (even the super cool Pro-ject VCS which I covered in this blog a few weeks ago!) won’t quite be built to quite this standard. It could potentially last you a lifetime! It’s also worth noting that the accessories (such as new filters and cleaning fluid) are readily available and are very reasonably priced too. So really, this is one of those things that will cost you a lot up front (or a lot less spread out on 0% finance!) but will ultimately be a good time and cost saving exercise.
This is the kind of piece you only buy if you really love vinyl. Perhaps you’re a collector who likes going to record fayres, or maybe you only buy new. Either way, this will ensure your collections lives on in the best and most beautiful way.
