Hi-fi furniture! Yes, it’s necessary and yes, it can be kind of cool too. Especially when it’s made of something that’s both perfect for the job at hand (i.e. isolating, flexible yet rigid and attractive) as well as perfect for the realms of sustainability. Bamboo grows quickly, is easy to maintain and is therefore very eco-friendly. It’s no wonder that the hi-fi stand specialists Atacama chose the wonder plant for an entire range!
Okay, here’s the lowdown. Everything in the bamboo is available in natural (light, in other words!), medium and dark finishes (the finishes are achieved by staning the bamboo and may well differ). There are over a dozen models in the range (in all of the variations you can imagine) so here are a few of the shining stars…
That’s the Atacama Evoque Eco 60-40. An incredibly popular model that does well for the price (£139 per level!) with four spacing options. It’s beautiful, versatile and very good for high-end equipment. Just make sure you leave a nice gap between the gear and the next shelf. Hi-fi overheats!
If you want to take things a little higher, why not try…
Okay, it probably doesn’t look much different, but the Atacama Evoque Eco 60-40 Special Edition has a distinct edge on the above to improve dampening and resonance. Innovations include: lengthening the legs and incorporating rotating counterweights as well as channels carved underneath the bamboo panels serving to guide vibrations towards the legs. The steel feet have been replaced with bronze Isolation Coned Spikes which promote a tighter flow of sonic and mechanical resonance. And it works! It just won the What Hi-Fi Award for Best Hi-Fi Stand 2015.
Need something for your speakers? There’s some bamboo there too!
The Moseco series (models 5-7, with the numbers referring to the height: 5 is 500cm, 6 is 600cm etc.) feature a bamboo base, benefiting from all of the upsides of the wonder-material, topped with fillable carbon steel tubes. The wonder-material struck again in the awards too, with a What Hi-Fi Award Best Speaker Stands 2015 to their name!
And finally, something for the AV crowd…
That’s the Atacama Evoque Eco 110-40 AV Stand which is everything of the stands above, but specifically (and attractively!) designed for the AV customer.
There’s several options for each of these ranges. If you wish to explore those options, then give us a shout. We can advise based on your equipment and help you make an informed choice. Trust me, this is not a decision to be taken lightly! Furniture may seem like a afterthought, but it makes all the difference to the performance of your equipment. As with everything hi-fi, it’s all in the detail.
