Every time we do a demonstration of some proper hi-fi kit (separate amplifier, CD player and speakers), we invariably get asked to compare a few cable brands or the customer ends up bringing their own cables.

We’ve carefully picked a range of cables at each price bracket and in the £100-200 range, we’re always a little hesitant to try Blue Heaven. Not because it’s bad cable, but because it’s such a special alternative and we never know what sort of reaction to expect. This isn’t more perfectly shown in the example of a recent demo (but more on that later).

Nordost cables don’t look like anything else. The signature ” ribbon design” features several cables held (quite literally) in the air without contact between cable and outer jacket. The science behind this supposes the cable will sound better if it isn’t in contact with a sheathing, so it’s actually manufacturered to have an air gap all the way along its length. This adds up to a beautiful cable that’ll tuck neatly under the carpet as well.

Frankly though, someone serious about audio is buying these for their sound, not their looks – it does help, but its whats on the inside that counts!

So, back to a recent demonstration. Someone fairly new to “proper hi-fi” in his late 20s came in to compare a few new amplifiers and asked us to compare interconnect cables. He’d been usign a range from a large US manufacturer, all of which were favouring thickness and colourful jackets over all else. They sounded “ok” but after showing him a few options, this customer was about to experience what a Nordost cable can do. Aside from the precaution of making sure there weren’t any hot drinks nearby and everything movable was taped down (just kidding), we replaced his cable with Blue Heaven.

After a moment of silence, this customer was exstatic and began dancing around with an air guitar – literally. Having picked which amplifier he preferred already, he was shocked what a difference this cable made to the sound. “It’s so fast !” and “sitheringly smooth” were two of the comments received. This cable always makes quite an impression. It’s not best suited to everything on the market, but if you want a fast, liquid sound, little can match the mighty Blue Heaven. One happy customer and one fewer stocked Blue Heaven cables later, we’re still reluctant to try Blue Heaven (or any Nordost cable!) as we never know what reaction to expect – but if you really want the best of this type of sound, you owe it to yourself to give em a try!

Blue Heaven is now available with a range of plugs. You can pick RCA-RCA (phono plugs on both ends for most kit), RCA-DIN or DIN-DIN (for Naim etc) or XLR-XLR.
