Epson EH-LS100 laser projector ends forever the dilemma of awkward projector placement with an ultra-short throw projection which gives a big picture in a small space.

For watching films, and your favourite TV series’, nothing beats the experience of sitting down and watching them on a big screen, courtesy of a home projector. There has always been one major problem, however; big screens have meant big projectors and lots of space required.

Now, all of that is set to change with the revolutionary, ultra-short throw, Epson EH-LS100 laser projector…

The challenges of traditional projector installation

Using a projector has always meant the projector must sit a good distance away from the screen, something of a difficulty in a domestic setting. Whilst a projector traditionally has to live at the back of the room, one’s Hi-FI, audio and playback equipment (which the projector must interface with) lives at the front of the room…

Running the necessary projector cabling from the front of the room to the back involves expensive and unsightly cable runs, which are only neatened by the installation of dedicated cable conduit, or even more costly, fully installed and hidden cabling. That’s all before we’ve discussed the issues with mounting and aligning a projector!

These installation costs and challenges can soon add up to be as much as the cost of some projectors alone! Consider also, that for a rented property, your landlord may not view such installation necessities favourably, and it all makes a projector install seem a bit of a faff compared to a conventional TV.

Surely there’s a better way?

Epson EH-LS100 Ultra Short Throw Projector

Thankfully, laser projector specialists Epson, have just launched a revolutionary new type of projector, in the form of the Epson EH-LS100; an ultra-short throw projector, which could legitimately replace a conventional TV in domestic use.

The key to the Epson EH-LS100’s incredible performance, is its ultra-short throw, laser projection technology. Where traditional projectors require a large distance between the projector and the screen in order to form an image, the Epson EH-LS100 can be placed up against a wall, with as little as 5.6cm between the projector and screen!

In practice, this means the Epson EH-LS100 can be placed, for example, on the same piece of furniture housing your Hi-Fi equipment, or even on a domestic sideboard. A screen size of up to 130 inches can be achieved with suitable distance, with an extremely usable, and TV rivalling 70 inches available from just 5.6cm

Time to bin your TV?

Aside from the aforementioned space considerations, projectors have often struggled to replace TV sets, due to two key factors: daylight performance, and lamp life. Whilst it’s accepted practice to watch a film in total darkness (and is encouraged!), casual daily viewing is often done in full sunlight; something which can lead to washed out colours and poor presentation.

Lamp based projectors, also have a limited life before the lamp needs changing; this is not a problem for the occasional film night, but for daily viewing, it can rack up lamp hours surprisingly quickly. Epson’s laser technology circumvents both of these issues in one stroke; a 4000-lumen output ensures good viewing in all light conditions, whilst Epson warrant the life of the projector for five years with a ten year predicted laser life.
