As bonafide hi-fi enthusiasts, we care about sound. This means we care about sound, regardless of what that sound is for. We are also pretty avid gamers – so when hi-fi and gaming combine it’s like Christmas at Audio Affair! Luckily for us, this is actually a pretty regular occurrence! In order to get a fully immersive gaming experience, decent gaming headphones are essential.

There are a whole new range of gaming headphones out by Audio Technica – but there’s one pair in particular that really stands out!

That’s the Audio Technica ATH-AG1X Gaming Headphones. AT £265 they sit comfortably in the mid-range, yet offer a great deal for what you pay. They’re very comfortable and very clear, as well as being fully immersive. Reviews have so far praised their accuracy and their excellent handling of vocals, and are preliminary tests of them have revealed their sound to be simply… awesome! Balanced and full and everything you need to give your gaming experience the extra edge.

Here’s what’s under the hood: specially designed 53 mm drivers, an improved 3D wing support system and super soft earpads (those two things make for killer comfort and a nice, secure fit!) alongside all-metal honeycomb housings which not only look good, but also provide an open, natural sound that aids the gaming experience. There’s also a state-of-the art mic with a ‘windscreen’ to reduce breath sounds (which can be lifted out of the way and turned off), a one hand volume control and an extension cable included. It’s very much a set of headphones with gamers – and the practicality of gaming – in mind.

In our opinion their all-metal housing and 3D wings ensure they look far prettier than your average gaming headphone, which are usually a pretty plastic-heavy affair. These phones are sleek, stylish and with the mic lifted up look just as good as any contemporary non-gaming headphone. This leads us nicely to the main benefit of these bad boys: they’re excellent with music as well. Most gaming headphones aren’t, but with these you can just turn the microphone off and the music up!

These are one of the newest editions to our gaming range and are a definitive premium choice! The only competing models are Sennheisers which are also at a lower price point. The Senns have been great up until this point for gaming, but the whole Audio Technica range (including this pair) are great with music too. And not having too many pairs of different headphones lying around definitely appeal to some folk. Space is a commodity, as is sound. With these you can have both, alongside one of the best gaming experiences you can imagine.
