The Technics SL-1500C
One of our favourite turntables in the Technics range is the SL-1500C , this offers excellent value . The turntable uses the same high torque, coreless, motor of the high-end Technics models, as well as a sophisticated speed management servo. Moreover, the chassis is well damped and heavy. Next, another useful feature is the supplied Ortofon 2M cartridge fitted to the S shaped tonearm. Finally, there is a built in phono preamp, making this deck a great starter unit, if your amplifier does not have a turntable input.
Stable motor speed
Technics turntables are renowned for their coreless direct drive motors. The double sided rotors prevent minute speed variations known as cogging. Moreover, the speed control servo uses techniques developed for Technics parent company, Panasonics, Blu-ray players. Making for highly accurate rotation. Next, the heavyweight platter is made of layered aluminium with a coating of damping rubber on the underside. This reduces resonances.
The plinth has a sophisticated construction that uses a combination of aluminium, ABS and glass fibre to give good rigidity and suppress vibration. Black, silver and white versions are available.

The build quality will impress and the turntable feels solid and well made. Everything works with precision and the direct drive motor brings the platter up to speed quickly. The arm bearings have very little free play, leading to a quality feel. Moreover, it is easy to change the arm’s height should you choose to change the supplied cartridge. The detachable headshell also makes changing the cartridge easy.
The built in phono stage is a high quailty unit and sounds really good. As a result you do not need to buy an external preamp.
