Have you ever dreamed of having your own home cinema, complete with a huge projector screen? Of course you have. You’re a human being and you’re reading a hi-fi and AV blog. It’s a pretty standard dream amongst audio and audio-visual-philes. But how much do you actually know about projector screens? Well, turns out, there’s quite a lot of variation out there. But like rest of the very best hi-fi and AV gear… what you want is the thing that does all of it.

Which brings me swiftly onto…

… the GrandView Cyber Electric Tab Tensioned Acoustic 16:9 Home Cinema Projector Screen. It’s a bit of a mouthful, yes. But once I explain what this screen can actually do, you will understand. Unfortunately screens aren’t the most photogenic of things, but bear with me.

There are a few different types of screen out there, which can be differentiated between like so. First up, we have whether or not it’s manual, fixed or motorised. Manual you have to roll up manually and fixed are permanently static. You can also get fixed screens which are motorised, which means you don’t have to get out of your chair for any reason other than getting a snack.

Next up, they can be acoustic. This means they are very slightly transparent (not that you would notice) so you can put speakers behind them, built into the wall as the two pictures above demonstrate. The sound will filter through the screen without disrupting either the audio or visual elements of the experience, and there will less speakers visibly cluttering up your space. Wins all round.

The next thing to consider is whether the screen is tensioned or not. When a screen is tensioned it can be tightened to make a flatter screen. A flatter screen means less chance of creases, and you don’t need me to tell you that a nice flat screen makes for a nice picture. Coupled with the sound filtering through via the speakers behind, you have the makings of a highly immersive cinematic experience.

The GrandView Cyber Electric Tab Tensioned Acoustic 16:9 Home Cinema Projector Screen is the screen we are focusing on because has everything mentioned. It’s £1300 and pretty much does it all. It’s tensioned, acoustic and motorised. It has everything you could want from a screen, except go in the ceiling. And quite frankly, that one modification makes it much dearer, and most folk are quite happy with the wall mounted ones.

The best thing about it is, it looks just as good as a non-transparent screen, which can be a bit of problem with cheaper models. And the last thing you want to do with your screen is compromise the picture. It looks and sounds amazing, and omes in lots of different sizes – right up to 9ft! You can get one size (10ft) bigger in non-acoustically transparent version, but 9ft is big enough for most spaces.

Much like our decision to only stock JVC projectors (you can read about that here), we only sell Grandview screens. Why? Well, we just love the quality! It’s not cheap, but it’s by far one of the best value screens you will come across. Perfect for a home-cinema set up of any scale.

We currently have this very screen on demo with KEF 5.1 speakers and a gorgeous Anthem receiver! Come in and check out a home cinema set up worth over 10K. We will even make you some tea! Just give us a shout to get booked in.
