HiFi Man was founded in 2007 by Dr Fang Bian in New York. At an early age, young Fang Bian became fascinated with music, particularly western music. He was also passionate about portable audio gear, especially Sony Walkman cassette players. This contributed to him eventually creating a brand that has been setting an outstanding precedent in audio technology.
Legacy of HiFi Man
2007 saw the release of the RE Series IEM and the HE-5 Planar which was one of the company’s early planar headphones. To avoid the high cost of tooling and due to small quantities, it was decided to make HE5’s ear cups out of wood. Wood was also considered a sign of quality and helped HiFi ManHE5 as a higher-end headphone. Nowadays, the brand is renowned for headphones that feature state of the art drivers delivering pure and rich sound throughout.
First High-Res Portable Player
As well known as being known for its planar magnetic headphones, the company is also responsible for introducing the first high-resolution portable audio player, the HM801. Since its introduction, HiFi Man introduced numerous high-resolution players, leading up to the recently released R2R2000, the world’s smallest high-definition Bluetooth/USB DAC and Digital Audio Player. Today, HiFi Man is routinely recognised as one of the most prolific producers of high-performance headphones and portable audio.
