It’s no secret that we love KEF. We have written about them countless times, and they’re the brand we seem to get the most enquiries about. They have a solid reputation built on a long history of innovation, and pretty much everything they have ever released has been met with acclaim.
Including the subject of our latest KEF-blog (of which there so many they deserve their own category!) which features…
The delightful KEF Egg wireless speakers are wireless active speakers suitable for your desktop… and pretty much everywhere else! tHEY take KEF’s iconic contemporary high-end design (featured in a range of products including the KEF original KHT2005 and KHT3005 through to the current E305 range) but this is the first time they have included that technology in an active or wireless speaker… and they’ve nailed it.
The KEF Egg in its active form originally evolved from satellite speakers from KEF’s 5.1 style packages, starting with the 1001, 2001 and 3001 systems with the latest variant of these being in E305 5.1 package, from which you can buy the non-active, none-wireless Egg-styled satellites separately.
Knowing they were onto something with this cute and compact design, KEF decided to cram most of their recent innovations carefully into the clever, compact space:
And yes, it has enough features to justify the “system” label. It allows streaming from both your device and from your PC/NAS drive wirelessly, which makes its a pretty neat all-in-one system. Best of all, it’ sounds like it’s made by KEF. Ultra clear, ultra concise and ultra clean. In three contemporary finishes, these things are cooler than cool, and perfectly suited for any space and function. Historic innovations in a contemporary box, with a very contemporary function.
In an eggshell: they have scooped multiple awards in their relatively short stint in the hi-fi circuit, awards which can largely be owed to their outstanding pedigree. Time doesn’t necessarily make a good brand by itself, but it certainly seems to help.
