The Linn LP12 has always benefitted from a modular construction, allowing the customer to configure their LP12 as desired. For those who seek a truly immersive and detailed performance, with a mid-range price point, The Linn LP12 Akurate could be *just* the ticket.
Configured with the very best of Linn’s mid range components, the Linn LP12 Akurate takes the Majik’s ‘no frills’ formula and enhances it with key upgrades.
The Linn LP12 Akurate Sub-Chassis
The LP12 Akurate uses Linn’s KORE sub-chassis, enhancing the structural rigidity of the LP12 chassis. Utilising a multi-layer, box construction, formed from 1.5mm thick aluminium, the entire ethos of Linn’s KORE sub-chassis is one of rigidity.
KORE’s arm board is machined from solid aluminium with strengthening ribs. This is then bonded to the sub chassis, giving the effect of one, single, ultra-stiff assembly.
The Tonearm
The Tonearm configured as part of the Linn LP12 Akurate is Linn’s own, Scottish made, Akito Tonearm. The Akito utilises a lightweight, yet stiff, aluminium arm wand with the one piece, cast headshell, chemically bonded to the arm wand. The Akito’s precision bearings, accurate static tracking, and precision spring bias ensure it’s kind to your prized vinyl collection.
The Pickup Cartridge
The Cartridge included with the Linn LP12 Akurate, is Linn’s Mid-Range performer, The ‘Krystal’. Two years in development, the Krystal utilises design principles learnt from the development of Linn’s flagship ‘Kandid’ Cartridge.
Utilising an ultra low-mass philosophy, Krystal uses a chassis made from aircraft grade aluminium to provide a stiff, rigid, yet light chassis for the generator assembly. A nude stylus is employed which has the effect of reducing inertia; a valuable quality as it aids in enhancing transient response.
Upgraded Power Supply
In contrast to the LP12 Majik’s Basic, internal Power Supply, the Akurate configuration makes use of the ‘Lingo’ external Power Supply. The Lingo allows for fuss free speed adjustment between 33 and 45 RPM – no drive cog, belt or any other mechanical adjustments are required.
The Lingo ensures that ultra stable (in terms of both frequency and voltage) and clean power is fed to the LP12 motor. Utilising two, ultra stable oscillators, and stall detection circuitry, the Lingo Power Supply ensures ultra accurate, ultra smooth power is sent to the heart of the Linn LP12 Akurate motor.
The Linn LP12 Akurate – In Summary
Linn’s Akurate specification, it could be said then, fulfils all the requirements of a premium LP12 setup: external power supply, moving coil cartridge, genuine Linn tonearm, and a superb plinth/base structure. All of this at a price substantially less than that of the thoroughly elite Klimax specification.
Let it not be forgotten though, that should the owner wish to upgrade their Akurate LP12 to Klimax specification at some point in the future, this is entirely achievable. The famous modular design of the LP12 allows this, and many other modifications and upgrades to be carried out as and when the owners’ budget or whims decree.
