The Naim Mu-So Qb is a one-box system with two distinct benefits: style… and sound. Of course, that’s just the nutshell. Pop the hood, and there’s far more underneath that slinky exterior than just great sound. Although, that still remains a key benefit, as anything else mentioned on this forum.
The Naim Mu-So is something you have already likely heard of. It was quite possibly one of the most game changing units to emerge in recent years, adored by critiques, consumers and Audio Affair staff members alike in every possible way. However, the price meant that it was the kind of desireable item that remains pure desire to many. Naim noticed this, and came out with a more compact and more affordable version, opening the market up to a new, broader audience.
Their answer: the Naim Mu-So Qb! A wireless speaker/multi-source system which packs everything that was good about the original, more expensive and much larger Mu-So into a much smaller, cuter shell. While the original Mu-So may have indeed been a little on the ‘big’ side (although, if you ask me, it is worth it for the sound. That’s big too, especially for a one-box) this compact cube fits snugly into neat little spaces.
It can blend in, or it can stand proud. And considering the interchangeable grille options (yep – each one is available separatelyshould your mood or decor ever change), standing proud won’t be a problem.
The grille may be what catches your eye, by it’s what’s behind the grille that really makes this a solution worth considering.
A 32-bit audio brain controls a myriad of features that other wireless systems often lack (unless, of course, you’re talking about the Mu-So.) If a simple wireless speaker isn’t enough, but the Mu-So is too much, this is the perfect middle ground. Connect it up to a network via Ethernet or wi-fi, and a world of music is at your fingertips. Quite literally, thanks to AptX.
Here’s what you get: Airplay, Bluetooth/aptX, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, UPnP (access your stored music – wherever it may be) and Internet radio. But that’s not all. There’s also USB, analogue and digital inputs. Full versatility as and when you need it, all with the benefit of Naim’s world famous sound quality!
Behind the features and the glamour, Naim’s world class designers have pulled out all the stops to ensure the sound quality is at its absolute finest:
“Mu-so Qb uses a unique configuration of seven custom speaker drivers – 1 x active bass, 2 x passive bass, 2 x mid-range and 2 x tweeters. Each active unit is individually controlled by the DSP for total accuracy. Tweeters and microfibre domes are of the highest quality, while its mid drivers have rare earth magnets and copper capped poles for even greater accuracy.”
If you happened to want more than one of these (and if you can, you absolutely should) they have multiroom connectivity. Now, this is nothing new in principle, but it is to Naim. Combined with the original Mu-So, the Qb are Naim’s first multiroom, and the ease of use carries over beautifully.
This is one of those products which needs far more than just a short feature to convey its benefits. It is basically everything you could ever want from a wireless speaker (and several other sources, come to think of it) combined. And because it’s a one-box, it will fit in without any fuss… and barely any wires.
