As much as we love to bang on about the amazing range of products with a million different functions and features (… and we really do love those things!) we’d be lying if we were to say we didn’t get excited about the more simple things in the hi-fi world.
… and the release of a new range of cables is something that we’ll always get excited about. Particularly when they’re specialised, and from a brand we love.
Which brings me nicely to the latest entry in our high-end cabling catalogue…
Naim have released a range of interconnects and speaker cables. They have dubbed them the Super Lumina, and developed them for use with their flagship series of amplifiers “Statement”. And what I love most about them is just how pretty they are. I mean, it’s not often you get exciting product photography of something as techie as cabling, but once again Naim have proven themselves far beyond what’s expected…
So, aside from the gorgeous product shots (I could honestly fill the entire blog up with them) what is it about the Super Lumina that’s worth shouting about? Well, we’ll let Naim tell you that.
“Every link in the audio chain is important. It’s something we’ve confirmed time and time again in listening tests. That’s why during the development of Statement, our flagship amplification system, we began a project in parallel to design a completely new range of high performance Naim cables. We started with a blank page, specifying each element using our expertise in cable construction and material science and based on the results of thousands of hours spent in the listening room testing prototypes.
The Super Lumina range is the result. Consisting of audio interconnects and speaker cables, the range is capable of meeting the demands of Statement but is equally at home in other Naim 500 and Classic Series systems.” ~ Naim
The speaker cable comes with the standard spade -spade/banana-banana connectors (take your pick!). Its fundamental design consists of several individually-insulated multi-strand silver-plated copper conductors of varying diameters enclosed in a tin-plated copper shield, all enclosed in a soft outer jacket which facilitates easy installation whilst minimising microphonic interference.
The interconnects come with several termination options (follow the link to find out what!) the design of the cable is the same as the speaker cable (several individually-insulated multi-strand silver-plated copper conductors of varying diameters enclosed in a tin-plated copper shield – try saying that with one breath!), with the addition of multiple individual aluminium rings form the rear of the connector and are screwed together to form an articulating section (preventing unwanted energy). The connector pins on DIN terminated cables also float within their sockets, extending the decoupling effect to the signal’s entry point.
The result is very much up to Naim’s standards of unwavering excellence… and they’re just go damn pretty! Oh go on, one more picture for the road…
Ooh. As always, give us a shout if you have any questions, concerns or enquiries. We know our cables, and we know our Naim.
