One of the most hotly anticipated new AV products of 2016 is here. In fact, it landed just a few weeks before the year ended, so for all intents and purposes it’s a brand new gift for the new year, and a true first for this particular brand.
Introducing our January 2017 Product of the Month:
The Oppo UDP-203 UHD 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player is the very first 4k Ultra HD disc player from AV maestros Oppo, and it has come at just the right time following the discontinuation of the (now much lamented) award winning 103D and 105D models. And yes, we have it. In stock, and available to demo.
It’s our product of the month for many reasons, but at this stage it’s probably best we let the brand themselves summarise:
“The OPPO UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player provides an unmatched A/V experience to home theater enthusiasts. Drawing from over a decade’s worth of experience in advanced imaging processing technology and high fidelity audio performance, the UDP-203 is the ideal source to complete the ultimate home theater and sound room.” ~ Oppo
It features, for the first time in Oppo (already a hugely distinguished purveyor of some of the finest AV equipment available) history reference quality video, alongside lossless, high-resolution audio and even has the ability to play pretty much every disc format possible: UHD, Blu-ray, 3D, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD and even CD. It’s a disc player that truly covers all bases.
It’s supports a resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels (that’s a whopping four times the pixels of Full HD Blu-ray) as well as supporting the ever popular 4K media files. This ultra resolution is supported further by another benefit: High Dynamic Range: “enhanced resolution, refined contrast, greater brightness, and expanded color produce stunning video with unparalleled clarity and detail.” Best of all. once Dolby Vision lands in just a few months time (or maybe sooner) it’s fully upgradeable.
And that’s just the picture. We already mentioned the high-resolution sound is lossless, made capable by lossless decoding alongside an inbuilt high-performance DAC. Everything is compatible with advanced audio formats (such as Dolby) supported, and its hugely versatile in terms of connectivity too, with dual HDMI outputs and an advanced HDMI 2.0 included, alongside easy integration with any and every home cinema system you can think of.
In essence, this is a hugely disc player that plays well with everything that has come, and will come its way. It’s completely future-proof, and is likely to set a benchmark for what is possible from disc players in the coming years.
