Speakers stands are often overlooked, sometimes simply tacked on as an afterthought. After all, when you have a beautiful and shiny pair of loudspeakers to distract you, who cares what they sit on, right? Well, if you’ve read our thoughts on this matter before, you will know that stands have a much greater purpose than a simple stand for a bookshelf speaker.
They offer isolation, rigidity and dampening, and the higher end ones can be fillable to taste. Stands make so much of an overall difference to the sound that sometimes it’s worth upgrading the stands over the loudspeakers themselves. Seriously, try it! It could well save you hundreds, if not thousands of pounds! But what happens when you have bookshelf speakers that are far too big for the average stand? Well, there is an answer…
Those right there are the Partington Ultima. And as the name suggests, they’re pretty much the last word in big speaker stands. In fact, they’re probably the biggest available for mass consumption! They’re available in both black and silver, and look equally stunning (and impressive!) in both.
The Ultima are the flagship stands of the multi-award winning Partington series. They are made to the highest possible standards, with the highest-grade materials, welded and laser cut around a specially formed centre column, designed to be filled according to the bass-tastes of their keeper (we have a whole blog dedicated to that subject here, should you be interested!)
All of the PArtington speaker stands are made to these standards, with the biggest difference between them being size. I’ve included a graphic below to show you what I mean..
The range starts with the Ansa (£179.95), which are lovely and great for the smallest (i.e. most compact bookshelf speakers, such as the Q Acoustic 4210), then you have the Super Dreadnought (fillable, KEF LS50) which is the most popular model in the bunch and its chunkier brother the Broadside (perfect for the ProAc DB1 that we just got into the showroom!). The Ultima is the flagship and largest model (not just in this range, but pretty much all of them!) and is suitable for the biggest bookshelf speakers. We use it for the KEf R300s (which we have an exclusive offer on for the rosewood finish!) all the way through to the KEF Reference 1. Great for bigger bookshelves, from budget through to the big boys.
Frankly, no matter which finish you go for, the Ultima look good with speakers of every range, as long as they’re big and heavy. Strong, sturdy, simple and beautiful, and in use in high end recording studios around the world. We’re pretty damn proud of them!
Why are we talking about them now? Well, we’ve been out of stock for a while, but just had a big shipment of black ones come in. Check out the full description and specs here, and maybe grab a pair of your own! Just make sure your bookshelves are big enough first 🙂
