As nice as it is to have big statement pieces in your system, sometimes it’s nice to have something a little more demure. After all, it’s the sound that truly matters. The physical presence of the speaker doesn’t have to be loud in order to be proud.
And on that note, meet the latest edition to the glorious ProAc range: the Response DB1s!
These are mini-monitors and mini-marvels! A tiny cabinet certainly doesn’t mean tiny sound on any level, but these new speakers take that notion to a whole new level. The thing about smaller speakers is they can often lack a little in the bass department. ProAc has set out to produce a small speaker with a quality of sound normally associated with larger speakers, particularly in the bass response. Well, they succeeded… and I suddenly understand where the name came from!
That distinctively ‘big’ bass (despite the tiny, understated cabinet) comes from a newly designed long throw bass driver with raised spider and linear motor system has been incorporated in a rear ported cabinet. The mid/bass driver cone is manufactured from carbon mixed pulp that is then elastic coated and fitted with an acrylic pole damping phase plug, exclusive to ProAc. All of this makes for something rather unique, yet it will still nicely slot into pretty much any interior, without making too much of a fuss. Well, not until you turn up the volume, of course!
