Q Acoustics has accumulated many prestigious awards and widespread acclaim from global critics over the years. Their current loudspeaker range spans custom install and weatherproof models, home cinema set ups and superb hi-fi speakers. Perfectly balancing price and performance, these speakers present superb value and make an excellent choice for high fidelity audio. In this guide, we take a quick look at the history of the brand and the Q Acoustics Concept 300 and 500 models.
Q Acoustics: A brief history
Founded in 2006, the first Q Acoustics lineup introduced was the award-winning 1000 series – a competitively priced range of Hi-Fi and Home cinema loudspeakers. Following on from these was the 2000 series, which set a new bar for the brand and further strengthened their reputation for high-performance and competitively priced systems on the home cinema market.
The 3000i model followed the success of these and you can read what makes Q Acoustics 3000i so special in our previous blog. Launched in 2011, the 7000 series was a self-contained 5.1 style system, with state-of-the-art audio technology. It very quickly earned What Hi-Fi’s ultimate accolade; the “Product of the Year” title.
Q Acoustics Concept Series
“Some of the most forward-thinking products in existence.” (What Hi-Fi? Magazine)
2013 saw the birth of the Concept series, beginning with Concept 20 and showcasing ground-breaking cabinetry skills as well as introducing Gelcore technology; another industry first. The ‘Q Team’ behind the Concept series are highly regarded in the industry with their years of experience resulting in a set of products that place them in the top end of the Hi-Fi world and impresses the masses.
Concept 300
Q Acoustics Concept 300 is a seamlessly designed stand-mount speaker with unrivalled performance. It takes the advanced driver components of the Concept 500 floorstander design and perfectly integrates them into this smaller unit. Having a mid/bass crossover drive at 165mm gives the unit very low resonance that is helped by high performance rubber surrounds.
Sitting in front is a large 35mm glass fibre voice coil and equally substantial ferrite magnet. The result is midrange and bass response that’s as punchy and dynamic as it is poised and eloquent. Above these is a 28mm high frequency driver made of high quality microfibre. Using a rubber gasket, the 28mm driver is decoupled from the speaker cabinet giving greater protection against unwanted vibrations. All of these advanced design features contribute to the punchy high fidelity audio quality.
The exterior design also doesn’t go unnoticed! The high-end finish is a definite eye-catcher in any home environment. The outside design includes numerous lacquer coats to produce a high-quality gloss finish which is combined with real-wood veneers. This results in a cabinet that manages to be clean and understated at the same time. The unit comes in either; Black and Rosewood, Silver and Ebony or White and Oak. All three present a modern and stylish aesthetic.
Concept 500
“Concept 500 is the culmination of continual evolution and refinement resulting in what we believe is sonic perfection.” (Q Acoustics)
Q Acoustics Concept 500 gives an impressive sense of width, all stemming from the high quality and well-engineered drive units within. Employing a 35mm mid/bass driver gives a generous amount of punch for a small unit. Like the Concept 300, the high frequency driver decouples to reduce unwanted reciprocal vibrations that may adversely affect the stunning audio.
The crossover section offers high quality components engineered for maximum audio efficiency giving the best quality audio with clear frequency elements. The exterior comes in five stunning finishes that allow the unit to blend seamlessly into your listening environment. Offering two further finishes (Gloss Black and Gloss White) over the 300 reinforces the Concept 500’s high end speaker credentials and makes it a stand out model.
