The Roksan Kandy K3 integrated amplifier. it’s probably a name you have already come across more than once in the hi-fi realm (we’ve even mentioned it a few times ourselves!) and that’s because it’s pretty darn special. It was the replacement for the marvellous K2 range… of which we have finally run out of the last. So it’s time to show the new generation of Kandy integrated amplifiers some love.

K3

Let’s take a little step back, so we can get an idea of why the new(ish) K3 is as special as it is. The range proceeding it (K2) ran in several iterations for several years, making its name as the “go-to” integrated amp in the mid-level market. It competed with the likes of the Cyrus original 6A and 8A amplifiers, and always held its ground. The K2 range held on to its opularity long asfter it was discontinued, and it’s only now that the K3 is garnering superseding popularity.

Frankly, its popularity is rather well deserved. It looks lovely, it’s a pleasure to operate. But what we really love (and what you will love too!) is the sound, which could easily be alluded to as Classic Roksan. For those unfamiliar that sound is very upbeat, but not bright. A foot-tapping, engaging sound which draws you in gently, but quickly.

K3

Now, I know what you’re thinking and the answer is yes: this is an improvement on the K2. We weren’t entirely convinced that is was possible (the K2 is a significant amplifier to us, always has been!) but they’ve managed to make something better. Best of all, it’s been significantly improved on in all areas. The K3 sounds more open, more dynamic and, quite frankly, closer to the higher end Caspian than it is to the K2! It looks very different too, with a brand new casing which has a striking and rather high-end appeal.

There are a few others that are worth your consideration, if you’re in the market for this sort of thing.  K3 amp is more expensive than the K2 amp was upon its release, however this means it sits above its old Cyrus competition. What you have now is an amp (and a fantastic value one at just £1,249) which is able to compete a little higher up the pecking order against the likes of the Creek Evolution 100A at £1499, or even the Arcam A39 at £1595!

Basically, our little Kandy is growing up. And yes, the K3 is more than just an amplifier: it’s a range. It includes the K3 power amp, the K3 CD player (either the K3 CD or the K3 CDDi which features an excellent DAC) and a dedicated K3 DAC for those who prefer streaming and other digital sources. They all work together in blissful harmony, and they are all available now.

So, do you want some Kandy? See the full listing (including its very impressive specs) here and be sure to let us know if you’d like to have a play in person!
