Portable hi-fi headphones are fast becoming the must-have gadget for high-fidelity music lovers. As the technology improves and innovations develop, so to does the variety available. Let’s face it, music lovers are a changing breed. While it’s possible that many music lovers do still prefer to keep their consumption of music confined to their homes with a separate headphone amplifier, more and more are taking their music with them, wherever they go.

This means the technnology has to evolve to keep up. Thankfully, Sennhesier are pretty good at doing just that.

Introducing the five star rated…

sennheiser PXC 550

Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Headphones. These, along with the slightly lower end model of the range (the Sennheiser PXC 480) have demonstrated perfectly exactly what’s possible with wireless headphone technology, and how it doesn’t necessarily have to break the bank.

Heralded by its makers and the consequential critics as more of a well-rounded travel companion than just another pair of headphones, the Sennheiser PXC 550 is beautifully made, and loaded with convenient features.

Design-wise, it’s worth noting that these are one of the most lightweight wireless headsets in the industry, made exclusively with both sound and comfort “Superior comfort and class-leading design” firmly in mind:

“The PXC 550 Wireless is designed for the longest of listening sessions and packaged for ultra portability. To guarantee the best fit possible, we have measured hundreds of ears and designed the headset accordingly with the overall size, the special shape of the earpads, and the headband’s architecture.” ~ Sennheiser

They have been designed to shut the world out, and invite only the sound they produce in. Featuring Sennheiser’s NoiseGard Hybrid adaptive noise cancelling, which physically shuts out more sound the louder it gets around you. Couple this with a battery life of up to 30 hours (continuous use) means this blissful solitude, and rich sound can go interrupted as long as you care to let it.

Other features include the fact it can be paired with the NFC (Near Field Communication) chip in your phone, and transmitted directly through that. However, if you would prefer to lean on what you know, there is a cable provided. Aside from that, the frame is collapsible yet hugely sturdy, which means the travel case it’s provided with is almost unnecessary (but still a very nice touch).

One of the handiest (and most innovative) features on this very smart pair of headphones, is the touch sensitive trackpad built directly into the earcups gives an excellent level of control. You can use it to do anything from adjust the volume to select a track, and you can even use it to answer/reject a phonecall (and yes, there is a mic built in too).

On top of all this, the sound is exactly what you have probably come to expect from Sennheiser’s 70 years of headphone specialism. And yes, that means it’s really very good. Don’t let the numerous features and obsessive attention to comfort get you wrong, these headphones take care of sounds first. Everything else comes a very close second.
