Known for their use of blisteringly deep (yet oddly soothing) baritone vocals combined with obscure (yet oddly catchy) lyrics and their proud, unflinching Canadian-ness, The Crash Test Dummies are a band who enjoyed a short yet intense period of mainstream success which has lead to them being a household name. Their second album God Shuffled His Feet, and the singles thereon, were credited as responsible for this success and it still remains a highly successful album to this very day – especially in LP form!
It was an album that proved an international commercial and critical success, helped in part by the rather famous single Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm – a song we believe to be the hardest to request in a busy club! Mmm topped the charts in a number of countries, and helped assist the album to reach a chart position. The Crash Test Dummies failed to meet that level of commercial and critical success since that album’s release in 1993, but their unique and warming music lives on.
Why do you need this LP?
It’s surreal and obscure, but without being remotely overbearing. Quite the opposite in fact! Owed to the inspired writing and composition of Brad Roberts (the man behind the baratone voice, God Shuffled His Feet is a delightfully warm and inviting LP which isn’t afraid to laugh at itself. Brimming with well-written songs and bursting with character and cheeky humour, there isn’t much to dislike. Some may describe it as a guilty pleasure, but as long as it’s a pleasure, it’s worth a purchase.
