My my, haven’t our friends at Acoustic Energy been busy? A long period of quietness, and now two gorgeous (yet affordable!) hi-fi products. We’ve already covered the first of those (the Aego 3 2.1 active speaker system) so now it’s the turn of one of the most exciting lifestyle products of the year so far: the Aego 3 soundbar!
Soundbars have very much been the lifestyle product of late, it seems every brand and its dog has one. Well, now Acoustic Energy have released their own take on the phenomenon… and I must say, it’s pretty spectacular!
It comes in the same black meets aluminium finish of its 2.1 brother (and looks incredibly smart in person – although like every other soundbar, very difficult to capture it looking glamorous on camera!) and it carries the same kind of sound you’d expect from a cherished and respected brand like AE. But there is one thing that really makes this soundbar stand out (or not, as the case may be!) it’s pretty tiny. Perhaps the smallest soundbar you can buy!
You might be asking why that’s such a big deal, but when you actually consider the sheer size of most of the soundbars out there, you may well understand! Not everyone has an enormous room (or indeed an enormous television) for one of the conventionally larger soundbars to sit within. This compact soundbar is perfect for screens that are 32 inches wide, and will sit beneath snugly without dominating the room.
… that is, of course, until you turn it on! The sound is big. It’s powerful and yes, it is indeed dominant. It fills the room much like any other soundbar within its price point (perhaps even a little more!) and works beautifully with both music and movies. What’s interesting to note about this mini (yet mighty!) soundbar, is there really isn’t anything that directly competes with it. At £199 it’s a fair whack cheaper than anything else of its (extremely high!) quality, and while there are other high quality soundbars out there at this price point (such as Yamaha – but don’ t get us wrong, we love them too!) they’re all much bigger, and made of plastic… so there isn’t much comparison! AE’s soundbar is aluminium, compact and simply lovely to have around.
If you have a smaller television which simply doesn’t have the inbuilt speakers to match the picture (let’s face it, they hardly ever do!) but you’re short on space, or don’t want a big, heavy thing taking up focus, then this is the soundbar for you.
