Hey… you! Yes, you. Got a pair of bookshelf speakers? Great. Let’s sort you out with some stands too. They’re more than just a pretty way of displaying your new pride and joys – so much more!
You’d be surprised how often speaker stands are overlooked. We’re not, mind you. With all the flashy excitement of the bits that you plug in and ‘play’ with, something as stationary as the furniture can easily fall by the wayside. But it shouldn’t! Not only do speaker stands look nice and give your pride-and-joys pride of place, they also offer numerous sonic benefits too. And stability. Which we assure you is really important. But we’re not here to repeat ourselves. Much.
As speaker stands are as important as they are, we can only hope there are a few budget options out there. Well, luckily, there are. Good ones. In fact, we have some real favourites – and all of them are under £100! We apologise in advance for the imagery. Bare speaker stands aren’t exactly a feast for the eyes. But we assure you, they look pretty cracking in motion.
Custom Design RS100 – £59.95
They may not look overly fancy, but the super-budget Custom Design RS100 are an excellent choice, particularly for the beginners. It (… they?) consists of a single, elegant column design finished with a 3mm steel or 6mm clear glass base plinth in two different heights. This stand becomes very fancy indeed when you see how many finishes you can get it in, which includes Mercury and Black with Chrome, Brushed Chrome and Gold. Not bad for under £60!
Atacama Nexus 5i – £79.99
The sleek and stylish Atacama Nexus 5is have become a bit of a hi-fi staple, from what we can gather. They’ve been hugely popular with everyone, from the amateurs to the aficionados, and are perfectly suited for the larger standmounters. They’re tough, they’re sturdy and they offer versatility in the form of a fillable column. Essential for anyone serious about getting the most from their bookshelves.
Mission Stancette – £84
Sometimes you have to go classic to get it right. And the Mission Stancettes are about as classic as contemporary speaker stands get! Hugely popular – in every incarnation – they remain one of the most effective methods of mounting your speakers, despite a very small price tag! Lightweight yet sturdy these slinky devils offer excellent vibration control and boast excellent versatility. There aren’t many speakers that these classics can’t handle, and therefore they’re an excellent all-rounder.
If you’re thinking that this is all we have to offer in terms of budget speaker stands – you’d be wrong! There are plenty of options that won’t shake up the bank balance too much, suitable for a variety of needs.
All we can suggest is have a sift through and see what piques your interest…
