It’s time to get excited about speaker stands. Why? Well, there are several reasons why, as with every upgrade you can think of. But in order to keep things brief, I’ll give you the biggy: speaker stand upgrades are almost as good as upgrading the speakers. The difference an upgraded set of speaker stands makes to the overall sound and presence of your speakers has to be heard to be believed… and yet so few people actually think to upgrade them before trying out a new set of speakers.

I will never want to actually discourage you from upgrading the speakers themselves (of course!), but if you’re looking to save some cash, this is almost the next best thing. Isolation, rigidity and dampening go a very VERY long way towards enhancing your sound. Even the most budget of loudspeakers can benefit from it, and even a relatively budget set of stands will go a long way.

All you need to know is: bookshelf speakers don’t belong on actual bookshelves. They belong on stands. For your convenience, here are five of the best at slightly different price points.

Let’s start with…

Atacama Moseco 6 – £119

Great value for money, beautiful looking and beautiful sounding. These bamboo-based stands come in a choice of three bamboo finishes with several column colour options. Versatility in terms of finish, versatility in terms of sound. These 600mm high beauties suit the sound of every speaker.

Partington Ansa 60 – £179.95

You really can’t go wrong with a set of Partingtons, and the Ansa are multi award winning, all the while managing to be very affordable. And the difference they will make in the sound is quite astounding! A great value pair… and available in black or silver!

Atacama Moseco XL600 – £299.99

If you liked the Moseco 6s above but need something a little beefier, these are worth your consideration. The chunkier version of the 6s are perfect for larger and heavier bookshelf speakers. And yes, there are plenty of finish options available too, many of them similar.

Custom Design FS104 Signature – £190

If you want to make a statement with something as humble as a speaker stand, these are what you need. An absolutely gorgeous pair of stands which look as good as they sound. Seriously, check them out!

… last but by no means least:

Partington Broadside – £349.90

A little bit pricier than the others, but worth every penny. The Broadsides are the battleships of the stand-world, as the much bigger version of Ansa and Super Dreadnought models. These stands are perfect for the biggest bookshelves you can find, and you can also get them in either black or silver!

It’s not the most exciting subject in the hi-fi world, but it could honestly change everything about the way your system sounds. Best of all, it won’t break the bank.
