Any loudspeaker fans reading this will have likely heard of the Tannoy DC6TSE, one of the loudspeakers credited with putting Tannoy on the map as a well-regarded commercial hi-fi brand. Well, there’s a new sheriff in town, a multi-award winner that wasn’t necessarily supposed to steal the limelight upon its initial release…
Those are the gorgeous and demure Tannoy Revolution XT6F Speakers, the smaller of the two floorstanding models in the somewhat gamechanging Revolution XT range, first premiered at the Bristol Show 2015.
Now, perhaps the XT 6Fs were supposed to take on a life of their own, perhaps they weren’t. But whatever the intention, they did. Since their release they have scooped multiple awards across the board, much like their (also multi-award winning) predecessor. The DC6TSE was good, but the XT is better.
Here’s why. The XT 6F features:
– Omnimagnet™ Dual Concentric™ drivers: delivering pure point-source articulation
– Down-firing external point: delivering tuneful and musically coherent bass
– Integral plinth: offering superior isolation from vibrations
– A choice of driver sizes: chose from 4, 6 and 8″ models
However, one of the biggest improvements is the base, which is much more sturdy and substantial than the DC6TSE’s. That brought together with a fresh take on the cabinet design has made for something very special, and award winning in its own right.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the entire XT Revolution series is very (very!) noteworthy in itself, as individual units and as an entire 5.1 system, but there’s something about the XT6F that stands out. Maybe it’s due to the pedigree (the DC6T SE won several awards in its own right), or maybe it’s due to it just being the right size, shape and style for the technology housed. Either way, it works.
Let’s move on to the important stuff: the sound. They have been critically praised for their versatility, i.e. their ability to handle any sound with ease and affinity, with a sound described as lively, balanced sound, excellent agility and precision and an impressively dynamic range.
Another point of praise? The finish. They may not be a jaw dropping specatacle as some of the speakers in the same category, but they look very classy and top end, with a very polished, pristine finish. Crisp, clean and clear to look at, crisp clean and clear to listen to. good all-rounders, and the kind of speakers that the critics can’t find anything to grumble about. And believe me, if it’s there, they’ll find it! A worthy descendent, and an even worthier award winner.
