Final-XT8f

We love it when a humble model, part of a system designed to work with the other ‘parts’ steps up and reveals itself as the star of the show – and that’s exactly what has happened with the Tannoy XT6F. The winner of the What HiFi Award 2015 for “Best Floorstanders £600-£1200” had a slightly less glamorous beginnings.

The Tannoy XT6F speakers heralded some amazing things when it was premièred at the Bristol Hi-Fi show in 2015, alongside the rest of the system it was released with: the XT! Yes, it was once a part of a system… and its technically still is. But that glorious technology means that each cog in that wheel is autonomously awesome. But first, a little about the technology that ties them all together…

The XT is a gorgeously contemporary 5:1 system that can be easily used as a stereo too. Each speaker is offered in either a dark walnut or medium oak finish and each speaker, from the floorstanders to the centre, and each cabinet is hand finished. They all feature the same groundbreaking technology that simply cannot be found anywhere else within that price bracket. This technology includes:

Omnimagnet™ Dual Concentric™ drivers: delivering pure point-source articulation

Down-firing external point: delivering tuneful and musically coherent bass

Integral plinth: offering superior isolation from vibrations

A choice of driver sizes: chose from 4, 6 and 8″ models

The reason why the XT6F stands out like it does because it was designed to replace the award winning DC6TSE. The DC6TSE was good, but the XT is better.

Aside from the improvements noted above (the drivers have been revolutionised!) one of the biggest improvements is the base, which is much more sturdy and substantial than the DC6TSE’s. That brought together with a fresh take on the cabinet design has made for something very special, and award winning in its own right.

And the sound? Well. It’s What Hi-Fi 2015 good. Crisp, clean and clear, with plenty of base and a surprisingly tight finish for floorstanding speakers. Frankly, it’s no surprise that they scooped an award, and they did it all by themselves! What’s that? You want to try them out? Well luckily for you, we have them available for demo! Just give us a shout, and we’ll arrange the meeting.

If you’re interested in the whole of the XT range, that’s the XT Mini, XT6, XT6F, XT8F, they can all be found here. If they’re this good apart, imagine how they sound together!
