Summer is coming! A time for parties, a time for BBQs and a time for working out how the devil you’re going to get your music outside in a discreet yet effective manner. Lucky for you, this is not a unique qualm. In fact, there are a few manufacturers out there who heard your call – and answered with some of the weirdest (yet completely fit to purpose) outdoor speakers we have ever come across.
In the spirit of the season, we decided to compile our three favourites for you to consider for your own garden party. Your guests will hardly know they’re there… unless they look really closely.
Let’s play a game of spot the speaker…
Can you see it? That well camoflaguged little dude is the APart Rock 20. Here it is outside of its natural habitat.
Pretty cool huh? This stylish rock disguise is actually a full 2-way high fidelity speaker, housed inside a polyester, waterproof shell.. Perfect for the garden, park, pool or any other area where you want to avoid the obvious encroachment of modern technology on the foliage.
Okay, round two! Spot the speaker…
Hidden in that charming little garden is the rather impressive Ruckus 8 by Speakercraft. Here it is, minus the foliage…
Avaialble in both graphite and snadstone finishes, the Ruckus 8 is a surprisingly powerful piece of kit, Not only is it capable of an impressive – and large – sound (its impressive bass response will make it sound like an indoor speaker of a similar caliber – even in the great outdoors) its poly resin shell is weatherproof and resistant to nearly every other thing the outside can throw at it. It’s been designed so that – even if it does chip or scratch – the texture and colour of the casing is consistent throughout. Clever huh?
Okay! Final round… spot the…
Oh, well. That was easy! Okay technically the Yamaha PDX-B11 is a portable Bluetooth speaker as opposed to a strictly outdoors one. But everything about this bad boy screams ‘outside!’
It’s rugged, its lightweight and it sounds fantastic. ThePDX-B11 will take you as far as you need to go,. While you can plug it into the mains – it will also happily run on 6 x AA batteries. And no, it’s not too power hungry either. It’s easy to use and easy to carry, and thanks to its refined two-way system it sounds pretty excellent too. Punchy bass, clear vocals and exceptionally detailed highs – all from a tiny and attractive little octagon.
