As nice as it is to preen about our own products, sometimes it’s nice to take a little step back (or step up, at times) and see what else the big, wide world has to offer. Now… hi-fi is a luxury industry. And as a luxury industry, it’s pretty unlimited. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Which is why there are some extraordinary examples of extremely expensive hi-fi paraphinalia floating around in the ether.
Which brings us to the rather gobsmaking Avid Actus.
*salutes*
Designed and manufactured in Huntington, England, this glorious British specimen is a real one off. It was built up from a clean slate, with every detail slaved over (…twice) to ensure a sound and a performance that lives up to that beautiful polished chrome finish.
But what lurks beneath that beautiful body that makes the Acutus different from the other hi-enders? In short, it’s a twin belt drive and sprung subchassis. One makes for excellent speed control, the other helps transfer vibration caused by the stylus into the (10kg!) platter, and isolated.
All very impressive – I’m sure you’ll agree. And this is certainly one of the best turntables we have stumbled across – in both sound and performance.
But how much will one of these beauties set you back? Well, at least £15,000 in the UK. *gulp*
But hey, it’s hi-fi. You can always go higher! (And higher…)
Remember, whatever your budget – we have a turntable to suit it. You don’t have to have a spare 15K lying around to enjoy analogue bliss. Just give us a shout if you’re ever curious.
