If you are passionate about music, you’ll find yourself downloading songs online quite regularly. It’s in everyone’s best interest to only download from a trusted source and more importantly – legal download. To keep up with the fast evolving online digital world, we have compiled an up-to-date list of websites where you can download your favourite MP3s and songs – free and paid.

Amazon
As well as the huge list of paid music to download from Amazon, (not many people know) they also have just over 2500 free MP3 for anyone to download without paying a penny. You probably won’t find many of your favourite or well-known songs listed, but we were just happy to find it free. The list gets updated and new songs will have a date displayed to show when it’ll be available to download for free.

FMA
Free Music Archive has a large database of music from many which are independent artists, they upload their work so that it can all be legally shared online and can benefit their own pursuit. It splits the music by popular genre from Blues to Pop and Jazz to name a few.

Jamendo
Quite similar to FMA, Jamendo has over 290,000 songs to download for free, it allows anyone to share and copy legally. Published under the  Creative Commons licenses. There are seven main genres: Jazz, Metal, Lounge, Dance/Electro, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop/Songwriting.

last.fm
We all have it, on our phones, on our game consoles and on our computers to stream music. But did you know they also offer a 25 page list of free music to download? To our surprise, it has some prominent artists like Moby and Nine Inch Nails.

Spotify
This is one of the big boys in music streaming, but recently Spotify has introduced a download service for its users in Europe. Spotify has hammered out a deal with record labels which centres around the creation of bespoke playlists. It will now offer bundles of tracks, with prices falling as more are bought. Ten tracks will cost £7.99, 15 tracks £9.99, 40 tracks £25 and 100 tracks £50.

iTunes
Apple launched iTunes back in 2003, and since then it has rocketed in sales from music downloading. A staggering 1.5 million tracks are available at Apple’s iTunes Music Store, tracks cost varies from 59p to 99p each. All songs are DRM-free since 2007, which means the songs are not restricted to iTunes playback only.

Tesco
As Tesco branching their services away from the grocery style, their MP3 download service got our attention. You’ll find a decent set of commercial tracks at the ubiquitous 89p price point. High quality and compatible with your iPod/iPhone.
