Product Description
Audio Technica AT33PTG/II Moving Coil Phono Cartridge succeeds in thinning down and shortening the cantilever, compared to the AT33PTG.
Nude Tapered Boron
The coil impedance is also refined from 17W to 10W. Audio Technica realised significant weight reduction of the vibration system and successfully improved the basic performance and sound quality of the cartridge.
MicroLinear stylus
MicroLinear (ML) is a specially polished line contact stylus with better high range performance than the conical or elliptical stylus due to its small curvature radius. It has low distortion and expanding high range reproduction even when playing at the inner circumference of records. And the constancy of the line contact shape is one of its main features with an average product lifetime of around 1000 hours.
Construction
Neodymium magnet with dramatically enhanced magnetic energy and permendur yoke with high saturation flux density and outstanding magnetic properties. The PCOCC coil enables purer transmission because it is not subject to grain boundaries in the direction of transmission. The VC mould that affixes the coil is made with hard synthetic resin containing potassium titanate to make it strong and rigid.

This is my first MC cartridge and I am using it on my SME 309 and Technics turntable set-up. I couldnt be more pleased. There is a complete absence of fatgue or harshness but plenty of detail too. Nice soundstaging too. I am no longer worrying about my cartridge choice with this one and just get on with enjoying my vinyl. -

I bought the AT33PTG2 as an upgrade from an Ortofon 2M Blue. It's fitted to a budget turntable - the Onkyo CP1050. The experts say an expensive cartridge in a budget turntable shouldn't work. I think it works fine. It took a bit of time to run in, but the level of detail compared to the moving magnet is amazing. I've gone back to listening to records that were pressed in the 1960s and it plucks detail from the vinyl that I've never heard before. I've tried swapping back to the Ortofon to do some side by side testing - the difference is so clear that I find the moving magnet cartridge difficult to go back to.
