    Product Description

The Elipson A680 multi zone power amplifier is a 6 channel power amplifier that can be used for multiroom and multi zone applications.

The amplifier has three stereo outputs as well as two bus inputs. Each module input can be switched to take the source from its own line RCA input. Alternatively, it can be switched to take a common input from either of two buses. This gives maximum flexibility to play the same source, or a different source, in each room or zone. Additionally, the volume can be set for each channel individually.

High powered amplifier class D modules

There are six class D amplifiers, each with an output of 80W in 4 Ohms. You can also use them in bridge mode for an output of 150w into 8 Ohms. Class D amplifiers are increasingly being used in highly demanding situations. Class D is designed to be more efficient than linear amplifiers. In high power applications it generates Less heat. The output stage is usually a pair of Mosfet transistors that are either fully on or fully off. The audio signal is digital right up to the filer stage, before the speaker.

    Versatile connectivity

Each stereo pair of amplifiers have a useful range of inputs and controls. There is an individual RCA line in connector for each pair of amplifiers. Moreover, there are two bus inputs and two bus outputs, so that you can daisy chain the A680 for even more zones and channels. There are also 12v triggers that can switched individually to turn on or off each module. Finally, the speaker outputs use spring terminals for easy connection.

    What is a trigger input?

A trigger input is used to switch a module in or out of standby. When it is set to on, it will switch the unit on when it detects a 12v signal. In this way any number of amplifiers can be turned on or off at the same time. The A680 has a switch so that you can turn this feature off without disconnecting the cable. Many preamps and streamers have 12v trigger outputs.

What is Multi room multi Zone?

This is known as distributed commercial audio in the jargon. However, The A680 is aimed at the domestic market and can be used for larger domestic properties. It does not use the 70V line system but a set of three stereo amplifiers. A use case would be having stereo speakers in three different rooms. In this case, you could send the same source to every room or a different source to each room. Normally there would be a preamp or streamer at the heart of the system to control the volume and select the source.

    Who are Elipson

Elipson are a French company that has been making loudspeakers since 1951. The heart of the company was Joseph Léon, who designed a range of highly stylized speaker enclosures. The speakers were usually spherical with a reflector that was designed to create the truest and most vivid sound. The design was ultra-modern at the time and has now been revived in the modern range. The latest range features a selection of high style speakers as well as more traditional designs and other useful products like this A680.
