Product Description
The Focal Theva Surround Speaker is a two-way design with a TNF tweeter and a slatefiber cone bass/midrange unit. The speaker can easily be wall-mounted for the best positioning.
The sound has delicate and refined details and a magnetic grille for a discrete look. The maximum power is 100 Watts and the tweeter is a 1” unit with a 6.5” bass driver. This unit is intended as a rear or side-mounted surround speaker.
The slatefiber cone
The slatefiber cone used by the Focal Theva Surround Speaker is made in France and exclusive to Focal. The cone is made from recycled carbon fibres that are sandwiched between layers of Thermoplastic polymer.
The nonwoven carbon fibre creates a very rigid structure that has better damping than other materials. Additionally, the light weight helps with the transient response. The slatefiber sound is renowned for being rich, dynamic, and balanced.
The TNF tweeter
Another focal innovation, used by the Theva Surround Speaker is the Aluminium/magnesium tweeter. The tweeter features an inverted cone that delivers a clear and mellow treble.
Moreover, the surround is made of a type of memory foam known as Poron. This reduces the distortion in the important 2 to 3kHz vocal range. This is the range that the human ear is most sensitive to.
Surround sound systems
There are various configurations of speakers that are used for surround sound. The most common is known as 5.1. The .1 refers to a subwoofer. 5.1 systems have a front right and left speaker along with a center speaker, for dialogue and special effects.
There are also two rear surround speakers, such as the Focal Theva Surround Speaker. 7.1 systems have an additional two side speakers. Surround systems are usually driven by AV receivers that have the necessary decoding to recover multi-channel audio from DVDs, Blu-rays, and streamed media.
