Icon Audio Stereo 60 MkIV M is this latest version of this excellent integrated valve amplifier, an ideal choice for music-lovers seeking a dynamic rapid sound with the warmth of valves. It houses a large power supply, output transformers and sound and can also be used as a valve power amplifier with separate pre.
Designed to get the highest level of performance from the excellent new Tung-sol KT150, Stereo 60 MkIV M comes with many features making it very versatile.
Low Distortion
Based on the MB90 monoblock power amplifiers, Stereo 60 offers the convenience of one unit and does not require a separate pre-amplifier. The original design got the best out of the KT88, now redesigned for the KT150 which has even better sonics. MKIV design comes with latest "LDT" low distortion transformers, a valve regulated first stage and a copper alloy top plate.
Integrated and Power Amp
A special feature is the ability to change the sensitivity of the Stereo 60 MkIV M at the flick of a switch. It can operate as an integrated remote control amplifier or power amplifier controlled from a separate pre-amplifier.
Triode and UltraLinear
The triode sound is favoured by many hi-fi fans but the power is always lower. With UL/Triode switch, you can switch from 85 watts to 50 watts of pure triode sound. Triode is preferred by many Hi-Fi fans but the power is always lower. Icon Audio's in house manufactured LDT (Low Distortion Tertiary) transformers with extra distortion cancelling are optimised for both Triode and Ultralinear so those preferring triode mode can always switch to Ultralinear for more power if required.

It is only a week since I took delivery of this amplifier and I am already very enthused with it. I have Shahinian Obelisk loudspeakers, which are known to be difficult to drive (7 active drive units), and in the past have found more than one well-regarded amplifier to be quite unsuitable. Recently I had got out of the habit of regular listening, which I now think must have been due to aging in my previous amplifier. However the Icon Stereo 60 produces wonderful results, and shows that you do not need hundreds of watts to drive these speakers.
I have found that the Triode and high sensitivity settings with the speakers connected to the 4 ohm output give the best sound. Bass is well defined, high frequencies well controlled, (the Obs have 4 tweeters in each speaker) great detail audible in the mid-range, and plenty of rhythmic vitality.
I no longer need my pre-amplifier but still use a solid-state phono stage. In fact vinyl sounds particularly good and I am rediscovering my rather ancient record collection.
The only downside of this amp is its weight – 35 Kg – but once in place it should not need moving again!
