Product Description
iFi Audio SuperNova SilentPower mains cable sits above the standard Nova SilentPower and is an upgraded version of that cable. Supernova SilentPower features an additional cylindrical housing that contains iFi’s proprietary Active Noise Cancellation II technology.
Please note: photos show US connector but the cable we supply is with UK mains plug fitted.
This mains cable is designed to remove mains related noise with the aim of improving hi-fi or AV system performance. This cable can also be used alongside Nova SilentPower cables on other components or the PowerStation mains conditioner (both of which are available separately).
Five Oxygen Free Copper cables
Supernova SilentPower incorporates five separate conductors made of heavy-gauge, continuous-cast OFHC (Oxygen-Free High Thermal Conductivity) copper. These are placed in a geometrically balanced configuration. There are two pairs of live and neutral conductors. Each set surrounds the core earth wire.
Moreover, live and neutral are separated by air filled tubes, made of a polymer matrix. This is designed to reduce magnetic fields and improve the cable’s dielectric performance. Finally, the cable is protected by a flexible polymer outer sheath.
High grade connectors and ground Zero
The cable comes with high grade IEC connectors that are gold plated for low resistance, and to avoid tarnishing. The Earth conductor is not twisted like other mains cables, and it’s positioning in the centre, cancels out any magnetic fields. As a result, there should be no residual magnetic field being applied to the centre-ground conductor. This is known as Ground Zero.
Power conditioning, Active Noise Cancellation II technology
The Supernova mains conditioning cable adds a cylindrical housing to the Nova design. The housing contains iFi Audio’s Active Noise Cancelation II technology. Active filters remove more noise across the entire frequency range than passive types. Wi-Fi signals and other radio frequency interference is not picked up by the cable.
Why also use a mains filter?
Every home has a mass of electrical equipment such as fridges, computers and even mobile phone chargers. All of these can emit a lot of electrical noise into the air and into the mains cabling. Radio frequency interference can get into unshielded cables and be picked up by audio equipment. Mains conditioning cables will strip out this noise. You cannot normally hear the interference directly but it can manifest itself as a grainy “mush” effect on the music.
To partner with the Supernova cables, iFi Audio also make the PowerStation mains conditioning unit (available separately) which is designed to reduce interference at the point of the wall socket, and in theory, these SilentPower cables can then carry this cleaner signal to your equipment.
About iFi audio
iFi Audio have gained a reputation for their desktop and high end DACs and headphone amplifiers, some of which are tailored to a particular headphone manufacturer, such as Hi-Fi Man or Sennheiser. They also make a range of accessories and mains products, which at time of writing are included in a range of over 50 products. They also make other filtering products, some of which are designed to reduce interference from USB and other connections.
