Product Description
The JBL Bar 800 soundbar is a more feature-packed unit than the JBL Bar 500. It comprises four parts. Firstly, the main bar has three front-firing racetrack drivers along with a front-firing tweeter. This tweeter is designed to make dialogue easier to hear. Additionally, there are two tweeters mounted in angled waveguides. These provide a widely dispersed sound field. Next, two up-firing full-range speakers bounce sound off the ceiling, for a 3D effect. The JBL Bar 800 soundbar system also comes with two detachable, battery-powered rear speakers. Finally, there is a wireless. subwoofer with a 10” driver, for earth-shaking bass.
The JBL Bar 800 soundbar main unit
The JBL Bar 800 soundbar’s main unit has three 46mm x 90mm full-range drivers. There is also a silk domed 20mm tweeter in the centre. This is used with the PureVoice system to enhance dialogue. Moreover, there are an additional pair of tweeters in angled waveguides. These are designed to provide a wide, high-frequency sound field. Lastly, Dolby Atmos normally needs overhead speakers. However, the same effect can be achieved by having up-firing speakers that use a beaming effect to bounce sound off the ceiling. Hence the JBL Bar 800 soundbar has two up-firing drivers. The main soundbar has an output of 340 watts.
Detachable surround speakers
Detachable surround sound speakers are provided with the JBL Bar 800 soundbar. When not in position they plugin to either side of the main unit to charge the batteries. However, as they are wireless, they can also be placed at the rear of the room to act as rear surround speakers. Each surround speaker has an output of 40 watts.
Deep bass from the 10” subwoofer
In addition to the main soundbar and satellite speakers, the JBL Bar 800 soundbar also comes with a downward firing 10” subwoofer. This is also a wireless unit that can be placed anywhere, without trailing wires. The subwoofer is a 300 Watt unit and will provide punchy bass from both music and movies.
What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Atmos is a multichannel 3d sound system originally developed for the cinema. However, it can also be used in the home, by deploying the JBL Bar 800 soundbar. This unit is designed to make it as easy as possible to create a fully featured Dolby Atmos system without trailing wires. Dolby Atmos generates an immersive sound field through the use of overheld speakers. However, rather than sending sound to a few surround speakers, Dolby Atmos uses up to 128 sound objects. These objects can be placed anywhere in the 3D sound field. Nowadays most streamed movies and discs are encoded with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
PureVoice technology
Movie soundtracks can have difficult-to-hear dialogue due to loud background music and sound. Effects. However, the JBL Bar 800 soundbar features JBL PureVoice technology to extract the dialogue and make it more audible. Most voice enhancement is done by boosting the mid-range however, this can also boost other parts of the soundtrack. PureVoice analyses the signal and extracts just the dialogue. This is then fed back into the main signal using the built-in DSP engine. As a result, the dialogue is crisp and clear.
Sound calibration
The shape and size of a room can radically affect the sound of a surround system. Reflections from the walls and furnishings can result in dips and troughs in the response. As a result, the JBL Bar 800 soundbar has a sound calibration system. This uses a built-in microphone to collect information about the actual sound in the room. This information is used with a set of filters to alter the sound. In this way, the system is optimized for that particular space. This is an automatic process without any setup hassle.
TV connectivity
The JBL Bar 800 soundbar comes with an eARC-enabled HDMI socket. This is used to connect your TV sound. eARC allows the transmission of Uncompressed audio and high-bitrate content to the soundbar. As a result, any Dolby Atmos encoded content will be passed through. Ready to be decoded into the full 3D experience.
