Product Description
The Marantz PM12SE Integrated Amplifier is a high-end special edition amplifier that is more attainable than the flagship PM10 but with many of the same features. It has a fully discreet two-stage design with separate power supplies. The pre and power amps are powered separately for purity of sound.
The power output is 100 watts into 8 Ohms and the frequency response is 5Hz to 50kHz. There is also an MM or MC-capable phono input and two tape loops. Lastly, there is a state-of-the-art electronic volume control that has superb performance.
Connectivity
Six analogue inputs are provided with the Marantz PM12SE Integrated Amplifier. Included in these are a CD input and a phono input. Moreover, there are two tape loops. The tape deck output takes its input from whatever the input source is set to, for recording. There is also a direct power amplifier input. Speaker outputs are via standard binding posts.
Current feedback amplifier
Elements of the PM10 have been used in the Marantz PM12SE Integrated Amplifier. That includes the current Feedback amplification. Marantz developed this and it provides hi-res music with a wide bandwidth. This amplifier has all the power needed to drive even the most demanding speakers.
Marantz HDAM technolgy
Marantz developed the HDAM modules used in the PM12SE Integrated Amplifier. These provide a more dynamic and accurate sound. Years of development have gone into the HDAM plugin modules. Current HDAM-SA3 technology is used in conjunction with optimized circuit design. The result is refined and exceptional sound quality.
Premium phono preamp
The Marantz PM12SE Integrated Amplifier has a complex and high-end phono preamp board. This remarkable unit can be used with both MM and MC cartridges. The board is designed to offer short signal paths that optimize the sound. This helps with noise pickup as the output from MC cartridges is often less than 1 mV.
Notably, there are two types of magnetic cartridges moving magnet and moving coil. Moving coil cartridges have a much lower output and have different impedance characteristics. Consequently, a higher-performing preamp is required.
Electronic volume control
Marantz has developed their own electronic volume control for the PM12SE Integrated Amplifier. This uses the latest IC to deliver excellent channel separation, dynamic range, and distortion performance. However, the unit maintains the feel of traditional analogue control. The channel linearity and tracking is state of the art.
Dual power supplies
The PM12SE Integrated Amplifier boasts two completely independent power supplies for the preamp and power amp. Both use oversized toroidal transformers for efficiency and to reduce magnetic interference. Having two power supplies ensures that the high current demand of the power amplifier does not affect the sensitive preamp circuits.
There is also a double-shielded enclosure to prevent any mutual interference. The high current supply for the power amp has enough reserves to deal with sudden transients such as drum beats without any voltage dips. As a result, the sound is accurate and punchy
