The Martin Logan Motion XT C100 Centre Speaker is the optimal centre channel speaker for a Motion based surround sound system. It features the Martin Logan developed FMT XT tweeter. This tweeter uses advanced Folded Motion Waveguide technology as well as two reinforced Kevlar mid-bass drivers. This provides great clarity in the important vocal range. Additionally, the anti-lobing crossover design improves accuracy. The flippable cabinet has a slight slope to angle the speaker towards the listener. It can also be mounted on a low shelf or TV stand.
Thin film, folded motion tweeter
The Motion XT C100 Centre Speaker has a centrally mounted, thin film Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT). The tweeter has been upgraded with a larger motor structure and provides a higher output with less distortion. Additionally, the waveguide has been improved after more than 50 designs were looked at. The waveguide, surrounding the FMT tweeter, is used to disperse high frequencies more evenly towards the listener. It is also used to match the output level to the other drivers. The design minimises room reflections and gives a wider dispersion than conventional tweeters.
Twin Kevlar midrange / woofer drivers
Either side of the FMT tweeter sits a Nomex reinforced Kevlar mid-bass driver. The Motion XT C100 Centre Speaker drivers feature a perfect balance of lightweight material, strength and anti-resonance, anti-ringing properties. This is designed to give unparalleled sound quality. This combination of FMT tweeter and Nomex bass-mid units creates stunning vocals and special effects on the centre channel.
Anti-lobing crossover
The Motion centre channel speakers feature an anti-lobing, 2.5-way crossover design that preserves the tonality of source material. Acoustic lobing is caused by two or more speaker drivers not providing an even output at a certain frequency. Lobing is usually present at the crossover frequency. However, it can be mitigated with careful crossover design as with the Motion XT C100 Centre Speaker.
Flippable cabinet and high quality finishes
The Motion XT C100 Centre Speaker has a Flippable cabinet, that can be placed either way up. This has the effect of pointing the speaker at the listener. Hence it can be mounted on a low shelf or in a cabinet. As well as cutting edge technology, the Motion series, from Martin Logan, use the highest quality materials. High-grade finishes include walnut, satin white or gloss black, upgrade your audio experience today.
Why a centre channel?
It was discovered early in sound film production that single speakers struggle to present vocals accurately. Moreover, the sound field was mono. Stereo was used for movies as early as 1940, with Walt Disney’s Fantasia. Notably, the system used multiple speaker drivers, for different frequencies, as well as a centre channel speaker. The centre channel was used for vocals, and made dialogue more understandable. It also allowed the level of vocals to be set independently of the background. Surround sound systems eventually found their way into the home and most AV amplifiers will have a centre channel output. There are also many different setups, using up to eleven speakers.
