Product Description
Ortofon 2M Red Verso MM Phono Cartridge is an all-purpose design which delivers open, dynamic sound with a slight touch of warmth. It is an alternative to the original 2M Red made for bottom mount headshells.
Difference between 2M Red and 2M Red Verso
The 2M Red verso features an improved engine which provides an increased output of 5.5mV and an optimised sound reproduction and a high level of sonic accuracy. It also has a tipped Elliptical diamond and split pole pins with a copper wire and the cartridge body is manufactured from an environment-friendly material called Hopelex which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.
2M Red Verso vs 2M Blue Verso
2M Red uses an elliptical stylus over a nude elliptical model used on the Blue which lends it a better price-point with great channel separation, frequency range and tracking ability. The engines, coils and magnets are identical in the Red and Blue models, as are they in the Bronze and Black.
Interchangeable models are:
- 2M Red and 2M Blue
- 2M Bronze and 2M Black
- 2M Mono and 2M 78
Ease of use
The design is optimised for ease of mounting the cartridge and employs a weight and size that fits most common turntables today. 2M Red Verso delivers excellent compatibility when used in a choice of playback systems and with a variety of phono preamps.
How to replace M2.0mm screws
First, remove the stylus with the stylus protection guard from the cartridge body to avoid any damage to the diamond. Use Torx 8 key to unscrew the black screw from the Verso top plate and remove this from the cartridge body. Remove the two countersunk screws from the top plate then insert the two M2.0mm screws in the top plate.
Mount the top plate on the cartridge body. Hold the top plate with screw-threads hanging down and turn the cartridge body 180 degrees and mount from above. Mount the black screw in the top plate and tighten with appropriate force then mount the cartridge on the tonearm using the enclosed tool. Finally reattach the stylus with the stylus protection guard on the cartridge body.
Included accessories:
The package includes a stylus brush, allen key Torx 6 and an allen key Torx 8 plus two screw M2.0 x 6.
Precise and accurate record groove retrieval
The 2M Series is developed in conjunction with the Danish Industrial designer Møller Jensen Design who also designed the award winning MC Jubilee series. Inspired by the contours of a diamond which gracefully traces the grooves on a record’s surface, the 2M’s elegance establishes a great mix of form and functionality.
Ortofon 2M Legacy
2M was selected as a modern name that is easy to pronounce and remember and plays on the abbreviation for moving magnet (MM). 2M is engineered to the highest standards and represents Ortofon’s unrelenting commitment to providing the most precise and accurate reproduction possible without coloration.
Models in the 2M series
There are five model variations in the 2M series, each has its own individual sonic expression.
- 2M Red is an all-purpose cartridge with open, dynamic sound and a hint of warmth
- 2M Blue increases dynamics and resolution so sound is more open and detailed
- 2M Bronze adds further details and resolution in a balanced way to respect all elements
- 2M Black is the flagship, true-to-groove with highly accurate insight into each recording
- 2M Mono SE, 2M Mono and 2M 78 cartridges authentically play mono vinyl records
Performs like an MC Cartridge
The 2M series of cartridges feature patented split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and OM Super series.
What replacement stylus does 2M Red Verso use?
2M Red Verso uses the 2M Red stylus which is interchangeable with 2M Blue and 2M Silver. With proper care, the stylus can deliver up to 1000 hours with no degradation of performance.
