Product Description
Ortofon 2MR Black moving magnet MM phono cartridge is essentially a less tall version of the excellent 2M Black, designed for turntables from brands like Rega where a low-form factor cartridge is needed and/or where VTA is not adjustable and the standard 2M model is too high.
This shorter height is also useful if you wish to upgrade your turntable with a thicker turntable mat or platter upgrade and need to account for this with a shorter height cartridge, again rather than adjusting VTA on the tonearm.
Key Features
- All-purpose cartridge that delivers an open, dynamic sound
- Tipped Elliptical diamond stylus profile
- Overhead mounting cartridge for installing into a headshell
- Moving magnet cartridge with removable stylus
- Utilises Ortofon's split-pole pin technology to reduce the eddy current and to get a flat frequency response, like with an MC cartridge
- Can be upgraded with other styli from the Ortofon 2M range
- Anti-resonant Hopelex body
- Reduced-height 2MR cartridge body

"...When set-up, the Ortofon 2M Black was immediately engaging, sounding powerful and vivid...But it was natural recordings of full orchestra that confirmed that the 2M Black is a stellar moving-magnet cartridge...The 2M Black delivers a holographic imagery worthy of the most sophisticated vinyl replay systems." (Hi-Fi News Magazine)

"...it showed real power and dynamics, as well as crisp timing...The most transparent and detailed stylus here...handles subtlety well, with vocals especially possessing supreme inflection and insight...The midrange is expressive, and the treble is insightful and vivid." (What Hi-Fi Magazine)

"For those after a powerful, yet fun-loving performance, this Ortofon should be a must-listen. At 7.2g it’s a heavy shelled cartridge, and has a relatively light recommended tracking force of 1.5g. A very transparent and detailed stylus, the Ortofon handles subtlety well, with vocals especially possessing supreme inflection and insight. Take care with matching if you’ve a bright-sounding system. But if you’re looking for downright oomph and fun, the Ortofon 2M Black is where it’s at." (What Hi-Fi Magazine Awards October 2013)
-
"Staggeringly good high-end MM that uses a stylus from the MC jubilee and easily rivals similarly-priced MCs" (Hi-Fi World Magazine World Standards)
-
"The 2M Black delivers holographic imagery worth of the most sophisticated vinyl replay systems. Its remarkable portrayal of air and spaciousness brings you you one step closer to the auditorium and to sharing space with the musicians. " (Hi-Fi News Yearbook 2011)
