Product Description
The PliXiR Elite BAC 3000 is an eight output mains conditioner, that will remove any noise from the mains supply. It uses a custom transformer to deliver up to 3000 watts of balanced Pure Tone Power. The result is greater sound clarity and less mush. Moreover, current delivery is improved and the unit can handle even the most power-hungry amplifiers. Additionally, the custom wound single winding transformer can reduce ground loop current and noise to negligible levels. This is one of the best units to use of you have a high-power audio system. Finally, the Elite BAC 3000 uses isolation transformers made by Noratel, this is designed to create a true balanced system, that can reject noise all through the power train.
Top quality casing
The aluminium extruded case is precision CNC machined for a perfect finish. Thick aluminium slabs are used for the top and bottom. The bottom plate anchors the whole unit and features vibration control feet. The feet are made in Germany by Bfly Audio. Notably, they can isolate the Elite BAC 3000 from external vibration, contributing to the natural sound. Finally, the Elite range are craftsmen built using no screwed connections. All the joints are soldered for reliability and the wiring is point to point. As a result, the units are built to last.
The meaning of balanced power.
Balanced power is a concept that involves every component in the power supply chain. This means that each unit must be designed to be balanced electrically. That includes any mains conditioner as well as the DC PSU that feeds your equipment, and any cabling. PliXiR have created a full range of units that can create the world’s first fully balanced power delivery system. This can reject noise right up to your audio equipment.
How does balanced power work?
Power conditioning and system grounding are little understood, however they can profoundly affect the audio quality of a system. Ideally the sine wave that is provided by the mains supply should be clean with no spikes or noise. However that is not the case in reality. The miles of cabling outside can act like an aerial, picking up all kinds of mush. There are also all the domestic appliances that can put spikes and noise into the house wiring. Furthermore, all the noise will get into your audio system making the sound muddy with low detail.
Another issue is the system grounding. There are actually two ground systems, with different purposes. The first is safety earth. This is used to protect from electric shock. Any metal parts are connected to the mains earth wire. As a result if a live wire touches the case a fuse or trip will blow. The other ground is used as a zero volts reference by the audio system. This is used for both the power supply ground and the signal ground. An audio signal swings both positive and negative with respect to ground. So any DC offset will affect the sound. Ideally the safety earth and the audio earth should be electrically isolated, as is the case with the Elite BAC 3000. This is achieved by using an isolation transformer and careful design so that earth leakage currents are tiny.
Balanced transformer.
The balancing transformer is made by Noratel and provides a true ground reference as well as isolation of any noise. Moreover the live and neutral connections are designed to be perfectly balanced and out of phase with each other. This has the effect of cancelling out any noise on the output. The result can lead to clean sound, even under high load conditions. This is known as common mode noise rejection.
