Product Description
PLiXiR Elite BDC for Roon Nucleus/Nucleus+ is a power supply upgrade designed specifically to provide the best possible power supply for the Roon Nucleus and Roon Nucleus Plus models.
It Outputs 19V at up to 4 Amps. PliXiR makes a range of balanced power supply, and mains conditioning units designed to remove any mains noise. This can give results of a pure clean sound with no hash.
The power supply units have two stages of regulation. The first removes any noise while the second ensures an accurate voltage, with good current regulation. Moreover, the build quality ensures that they can provide years of reliable use.
Roon upgrade
This version of the Elite PSU has been designed to give additional optimisation for digital applications such as the Roon Nucleus. For example, particular attention is paid to reducing any computer noise from polluting the mains supply. There is additional filtering, as needed for high-speed digital applications. The optimisations can provide the best possible power source for music server units.
PliXiR has years of expertise in building power supplies. As a result, they have realized that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to power supply design. There are commonalities at the macro level but improvements can always be produced at the micro level. This is achieved by component selection and the arrangement of the grounding system. The elite PSU is recommended to get the best out of your Roon system.
True balanced power
Balanced power depends on every component in the chain being optimised for this methodology. As a result, PliXiR have created a system that comprises both a mains conditioner and a custom-designed DC power supply. It is also important that the interconnecting cables are also matched to the system. Each unit is designed from the ground up to ensure that the power supply chain is balanced. This ensures that as much noise as possible is rejected, right up to your equipment.
The problem with PSU design
Most cheap power supply units are SMPS based. That is, they are switch-mode power supplies. These are cheaper to produce but introduce all kinds of noise. They use high frequency pulses for the regulation and this can be introduced into the mains.
Alternatively, Linear power supplies can be used to replace these, however, they also suffer from flaws. Noise isolation can be poor and noise from the load is often introduced into the mains. Furthermore, The more current demanded the more noise is introduced into the system ground.
The solution
PliXiR’s PSU range has taken the above factors into consideration. Apart from excellent noise performance and safety. the units have a two-stage regulation system. The first, pre-driver, stage is used to reduce noise. This stage uses a discreet, class A transistor design, that is open loop. This provides a very high gain. The second stage is a high-performance, closed-loop regulator, with excellent current handling. The design is to give a power supply with minuscule amounts of noise. Additionally, the slew rate and output impedance are optimised, under all load conditions
Another issue is balancing the ground connections. PliXiR’s unique balancing system ensures that there are no signal ground noise injections from the rectifier diodes. Moreover, ground loop problems are eliminated. Switching noise from the rectification is also reduced by half. The only problem is that a larger transformer is needed. However, the performance benefits outweigh the cost implications.
The PliXiR ethos
PliXiR focuses on making the best cost-no-object power supply upgrades for popular audio components. They use the best available components. These are more than just power supplies. They are part of a PSU ecosystem that includes mains conditioners and cabling. All are needed to create the PliXiR balanced power delivery system.
