Product Description
Project Amp Box S3 integrated amplifier is a small amplifier that packs a big punch. The Pro-Ject Amp box S3 provides 23wpc into 8 ohms and will suit bookshelf speakers to fill a small room with sound.
The entry-level audiophile, Amp Box S3, is designed for smaller speakers but can also be used to power in-ceiling or in-wall speakers.
An advanced and efficient PCB gives a warm “tube-like” sound. The only control is a front-mounted on/off switch. This is also a good sound upgrade for flat panel TVs and computers.
Micro-sized shielded case
The shielded aluminium case is designed to protect this efficient design from vibration and interference. Minimalist elegance is combined with top build quality.
The standard speaker connectors can take, plugs, spade connectors or bare wires. Two RCA connectors provide the audio input, and the amps can be stacked for bi-wired speakers, using the trigger inputs and outputs.
Warm sound from a class D unit
Class D amplifiers, although efficient, can be harsh sounding. However, with the Amp Box S3, new construction methods and good circuit board topology are designed to reduce distortion, give a better signal-to-noise ratio and a warmer sound than you may be expecting.
The output of a class D amplifier is a high-frequency square wave. The wave is modulated by the audio signal and then fed through a low pass filter. Class D amplifiers are highly efficient allowing for small size and low heat generation.
Isolated case and 20v power supply
The minimalist silver or black aluminium metal case has a modern elegance. The case is not only for show, it also protects the internal circuitry from interference and vibration. The soundstage you hear should be accurate and detailed with precise positioning of instruments. Finally, an external 20v power supply also minimises the chances of interference.
Build quality and components
Why pay more for a premium product? The answer is longevity. Metal film resistors and hi-grade capacitors will not degrade or shift in value. High quality circuit boards are more rigid and reliable than cheaper alternatives.
Additionally, hi-spec gold plated connectors will not tarnish and degrade the sound. Finally, a careful board layout reduces interference. Additionally in this case, the speaker sockets are carefully isolated from the chassis to reduce any chance of interference.
Why good capacitors?
There are many products built in the 1990's, that now suffer from leaking capacitors. The electrolyte leaks out on to the board, and eats through the copper tracks. This can make the device unrepairable. More modern high-grade capacitors have a much longer lifespan.
