Product Description
The Pro-Ject Stereo Box S3 BT is designed to provide a big sound from a very small box. With 40 watts per Channel into 4 ohms, there is no lack of power. The amplifier also comes with AptX HD which is a high resolution Bluetooth format that allows you to stream music from your smartphone or other bluetooth enabled devices.
Connectivity is also good with two sets of RCA inputs as well as a variable output for a subwoofer. The aluminium case is rugged and available in black or silver.
Small form-factor and high power
The Stereo Box S3 BT is only 10cm across yet it packs in a 40 watt amplifier and Bluetooth playback with its AptX HD connection. The case is aluminium for ruggedness and the housing also shields the circuitry from interference. Unusually for such a small amplifier the volume control is analogue with a motor driven potentiometer. THD is 0.12% at 5w with a signal to noise ratio of 96dB. Finally the RCA connectors are gold plated for a reliable connection.
Bluetooth HD hi-resolution playback
The Stereo Box S3 features the latest Bluetooth technology with the AptX HD streaming codec. Once you had to sacrifice quality for convenience but not any more with higher resolution streaming. In 2016 Qualcomm launched the aptX HD codec.
This codec can stream 24 bit hi-res audio between devices that are equipped with the chipset, such as the S3. AptX HD requires the correct chipset and this codec is being adopted by hi-fi manufactures, but many of the latest smartphones will support it and it should accept a bluetooth connections from any bluetooth enabled device.
Remote control and connectivity
You can control the unit with the supplied remote control, no need for an app to play local sources through the RCA connectors. There are two sets of connectors. There is also an additional controlled output that can feed another amplifier, a subwoofer or powered speakers. The speaker outputs will take plugs, spade connectors or bare wires.
Handmade in Europe
The Stereo Box S3 BT is handmade in Europe. The design is carefully laid out and is ahead of many other class D amplifiers anywhere close in size. The solid aluminium case is rugged enough for general use and the small form factor reduces the use of raw materials. Pro-ject are a pioneer in the industry and aim to make technically flawless devices. Class D amplifier are more efficient than tradition linear amplifiers. They do not dissipate as much heat and can be made in a very small form factor.
Who are Pro-ject?
Pro-ject was started in 1991 and the company are renowned for their turntables. At a time when digital dominated the market pro-ject made the legendary Pro-ject 1 turntable. Now Pro-ject turntables are sold in more than 80 countries. Additionally Pro-ject turntables have won may awards. They are made in the Czech republic using cutting edge technologies. Everything is made by hand including the chassis. A four step quality control process ensures a long life and correct operation. More recently Pro-ject has developed a range of miniature hi-end class D amplifiers of exceptional performance.
