Product Description
Pro-Ject VC-S3 record cleaning machine replaces the prior VC-S2 and has been updated and improved to provide even more effective cleaning for used and new vinyl records.
Why do you need a cleaning machine for vinyl? Over time dust and grime can build up in the record grooves. As a result, the sound is degraded, with clicks, pops and distortion. Using a dry brush is OK for light contamination. However, to effectively clean the surface you need a wet cleaning system that will dissolve any stubborn dirt.
VC-S3 is a well built machine that uses suction and a cleaning solution to thoroughly clean the record, in a safe way. Notably, the record is clean and dry in only two or three revolutions.
Suitable Cleaning Fluid
Alcohol based cleaning fluids can partially dissolve the vinyl resulting in lost detail. Consequently Pro-Ject have developed their own cleaning fluid that is pre-mixed. Wash it 2 is non alcohol based, and will clean the record in two or three revolutions. The fluid contains distilled water, as tap water will have impurities and should not be used.
Magnetic Clamp
The new magnetic clamp ensures that the record is held firmly and that the label is completely covered. It also makes it quicker to mount the record for cleaning. The strong metal arm is mechanically stable and features a new self adhesive cleaning strip. All the suction power is applied directly to the record surface for a deep clean.
0.5 litre Container
The used cleaning fluid container holds 0.5 litres and is easy to empty. Additionally, the cleaning fluid evaporates fast so the tank will need emptying less often. The new VC-S3 is made in Europe of high quality materials. Industrial design is matched with great practicality to deep clean your records and get the best possible sound.
The cabinet has been improved with 5mm aluminium composite panels. Moreover, the magnetic clamp makes it easier to use. Another improvement is the vacuum steam outlet. The vacuuming effect leaves a clean and dry record in only two revolutions. The machine also reduces the static loading of the vinyl.
Why clean records? Static Charge.
Records are statically charged from the factory. This attracts dust and debris. One piece of grit could damage the surface forever. Even new records can be covered in dust and older records will be covered with dust from the previous owner, not to mention fingerprints. There is also a release agent that is used at the factory. This can mask detail.
Why clean records? A Longer life
Regularly cleaned records will sound better and last longer. Playing dirty records can cause permanent damage to the surface. Additionally, dirt can collect on the stylus during playback, degrading the sound quality considerably. And dust in the grooves acts like an abrasive, increasing wear. Therefore cleaning records is important, both for rare issues and more everyday records.
Why clean records? Cleaning fluid
Finally the cleaning fluid is important. Avoid any that contain isopropyl alcohol as this can dissolve plastics. Specially formulated cleaning solutions are available including Pro-jects own Wash It 2 formula. This is good for vinyl and shellac records and will dissolve grease without harming the surface.
