The Ruark R1S DAB Radio attracts attention, with it’s flawless good looks and sound. The design is fresh and contemporary, and features attractive curves, along with an exclusive mid-grey finish. There is also a hand-crafted wood grille. The grille is made from sustainable materials, that are carefully worked to make them look like hardwood. The design is also complemented by the trademark RotoDial controller which makes the unit easy to use.
Main features
The R1S has a striking and natural sound with an exclusive grey and walnut finish. Connectivity is good with Spotify Connect installed, as well as Deezer and Amazon music. The radio also makes a good podcast listening unit. Analogue FM is included, as well as DAB and DAB+. The built-in radio aerial is also convenient. There is a socket for headphone listening and a switchable line input. Finally, there is a USB C recharge port as well as MP3 playback.
Convenient display and linear amplifier
The convenient display auto-adjusts depending on the light level, making the unit ideal as a bedside radio. The display will show which radio station you are listening to, as well as what track is playing.
R1S has a linear amplifier, that delivers a smooth and extended response. Furthermore, there is adaptive equalization that boosts the bass and treble at low listening levels. The optimised enclosure houses a NS+ loudspeaker that delivers punchy bass, and a sound that belies the size of the unit. Discover the world of radio as it is meant to be heard.
Remote control
The optional small remote control has four direct pre-set buttons, that can store your favourite radio stations, playlists, and podcasts. There is also a free Android or IOS app that can be used to control the RS1, including the volume level.
Maximum versatility with the portable power pack
Take the RS1 with you, into the garden or garage, and enjoy radio on the go. The BackPack 3 is a battery pack that clips onto the back of the R1S. Moreover, it can be left in place, as it is recharged whenever the mains is connected. Battery life is extended by the power management system that reverts to ultra low power mode when on standby. The battery life is about 12 hours, depending on the volume
FM and DAB radio
FM radio in the UK started in 1955 with stereo coming along in the 1960’s. There have been attempts to close down analogue FM but it remains very popular to this day. DAB or Digital Audio Broadcasting began in the UK in 1995. DAB+ began in 2013. The UK has one of largest digital transmitter networks, with over 500 transmitters. There are over 250 commercial and 34 BBC radio stations. Notably, there are over 100 Digital radio station available, in London alone. Most recent stations use DAB+ which is more efficient in the use of bandwidth.
