Castle Audio speakers are made in Yorkshire and the company is named after the famous Skipton castle. They are based in the town of Skipton and are rare in that they also make their own drive units and all manufacturing is still done locally. The brand has been relaunced with the beautiful Winsdor loudspeakers.

Castle also makes the air core inductors used in the crossovers. Not to mention the beautiful wood-veneered cabinets. In fact, they are renowned as a complete loudspeaker manufacturer. Despite globalisation, they still manufacture in the UK.

Drive units

The drive units used by Castle Audio are designed and developed in-house and their build quality is the key to the Castle sound. They often feature the most recent technologies while maintaining a traditional feel. Most of the bass units feature cones made from woven carbon fibre. This is light yet exceptionally stiff.

They also use woven polypropylene in the Windsor range. The voice coil formers have a high power handling capability as well as innovative magnet assemblies. As a result, a more linear motion is maintained. This is designed to improve dynamics and reduce distortion.

Additionally, lightweight materials reduce the mass of the cones resulting in a faster response with modern musical sources.

Flat response Tweeters

The Castle Audio tweeters are designed to be a good match to the bass units. They have a very flat response due to the fact that they use no ferrofluid for cooling. The crossovers also use the best possible quality components.
