    Product Description

Technics SC-C70EB MkII wireless music system is a well featured all-in-one music system with built-in speakers, including a subwoofer. Music source choices include a built-in CD player, radio and music streaming. An excellent choice if you are short on space.

The speaker drivers have been improved with a lighter voice coil and a more rigid diaphragm. Two 2cm silk domes tweeters are included. The power output is 30 watts per channel, for the front speakers, and 40 Watts for the subwoofer. There are also three JENO engines one for each channel. It includes a fully featured remote control.

    Newly developed speaker units

The 8cm woofer, used by the SC-C70EB, has been improved with a reduced weight voice coil, as well as a more rigid diaphragm. The dual woofers provide a clear and punchy stereo sound. The tweeters have a 2cm dome that is made of light silk.

There is also a new acoustic lens, to improve high frequency dispersion. Finally, there is also a 12cm subwoofer. All-in-one units are great space savers and you will not need to buy any other equipment such as speakers or cables. They are also easy to move around.

    Three JENO engines

Technics use a sound processing system known as JENO. JENO is a Jitter Elimination Noise reduction system that decodes digital audio data. As the SC-C70EB is essentially a 2.1 system, with a subwoofer three JENO circuits are used one for each channel. This gives the best channel separation, free from mutual interference.

    Space Tune, room optimisation

The SC-C70EB has a system that automatically compensates for the effect a room has on the sound. The walls and furniture in a room can cause reflections. This can cause the sound to have phase and frequency response errors. As a result, this unit has a built-in microphone. This actively monitors the sound in the room and corrects any errors.

There are three pre-sets, Free, Near the Wall and Near the Corner. You can also adjust the settings using the Technics APP.

    Powerful class D amplifiers

The SC-C70EB features three powerful Class D amplifiers. The front two channels are 30 Watts each while the subwoofer is 40 watts. The frequency response extends up to 20kHz. Class D amplifiers are very efficient, compared to linear amplifiers and generate less heat. In fact, they are up to 90% efficient and use less power.

Linear amplifiers usually operate in Class A or Class B. Class A gives the best quality but is very power hungry. Class D amplifiers tend to be used in smaller units, that do not have the space for large power supplies. Class D works by modulating a stream of high frequency pulses. This is known as pulse code modulation. As a result, the signal is digital, right up to the speaker.

    What is a streamer?

A streamer will take a digital audio stream from a remote server and play it back through the internal amplifier and speakers. The stream can be a music file, off a streaming service, such as Spotify, or a service such as a podcast or an internet radio station. The signal is usually supplied from you home network via Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet cable. You can also stream local files from a network attached hard drive (NAS) or thumb drive. Finally, you can connect using Bluetooth and a smartphone, to stream from your devices.

    CD player and radio

The SC-C70EB supports older formats, with a built in CD player and DAB/FM radio. The CD player will play CD-R and CD-RW discs. Notably, FM radio is still in use in most countries, and there is a wide range of DAB stations. FM radio began in the 1930s but did not become popular until the 1950s. FM was developed as a way of transmitting audio with less noise and wider bandwidth. Stereo broadcasts began in the 1960s. Even though it is outdated technology FM is still in widespread use. Digital Audio Broadcasting is more recent and began in the UK in 1995. More recently still, DAB+ appeared, this has a better data rate and a higher audio quality.
