Wharfedale Diamond 12 3D Atmos Speakers (Pair)

The Diamond 12 series from Wharfedale is the latest in the renowned Diamond series. The Diamond range has been in production since 1982. Now the Wharfedale Diamond 12 3D Atmos Speaker has been added to the range of award-winning speakers. This is a two-way design with a 25mm tweeter and a 100mm woofer. The power handling is 100 watts. This model is designed to create a dome of sound by beaming the audio upward or downward if ceiling mounted. This creates a 3D effect with Dolby Atmos-equipped amplifiers.

Klarity drivers with polypropylene cones

The Wharfedale Diamond 12 3D Atmos Speakers uses the famed KlarityTM polypropylene cones. This cone design is designed to provide low distortion and controlled breakup. Additionally, mica is added to the polypropylene, this increases the stiffness and reduces flexing. The result is a lightweight cone that has high rigidity and low colouration. Moreover, the cone has a lightning-fast response, delivering accuracy and excitement.

Precision magnet system

Next, the diaphragms are driven by a precision-made magnet system that has an aluminium compensation ring. The ring is designed to minimise the effect of variations in inductance as the voice coil moves. The result is less distortion. Lastly, the voice coil is wound on an epoxy/glass fibre bobbin. This material does not add eddy currents, unlike a standard aluminium bobbin. It is also stiffer than the Kapton type.

Preston’s fire brigade dome tweeter

The Wharfedale Diamond 12 3D Atmos Speakers use a woven polyester film cone with a high-loss coating. The tweeter delivers open and smooth highs. Moreover, the magnet system and the front plate are optimized for wide dispersion sound. Additionally, the front baffle plate exposes as much as possible of the tweeter. There is also a short duct that balances the acoustic load. This improves the SPL.

Spot form cabinet bracing

The cabinet features intelligent spot bracing to connect opposite walls. This prevents the cabinet from resonating. The brace design was computer modelled to provide the best possible performance.

Dolby Atmos is the ultimate in-home surround sound. Dolby Atmos was first used in cinemas in 2012 and is now available in the home. More recently Dolby Atmos Music was announced. Making Dolby Atmos more than just for movie soundtracks. Dolby Atmos surrounds the audience in a dome of sound, with overhead and side channels. Previous surround systems had five or seven channels with a subwoofer. The main difference with Dolby Atmos is the use of sound objects. These can be placed anywhere in the sound field. There are 118 simultaneous sound objects available. This is designed to create a realistic 3D sound experience.
