Product Description
Wharefdale Evo 4.4 Speakers are an exceptional pair of 3 way speakers that have won a What Hi-fi award for the best floor-standing speakers.
They are the flagship floorstanders in the Evo range of speakers. Featuring 6.5" Woven Kevlar Bass Driver, 2" Soft Dome mid, and 55x80mm AMT HF driver system.
The Evo 4.4's pack an impressive punch when it comes to sound performance, feature advanced technology and are available in a range of colours that will stylishly sit in any room.
High-performance at an accessible price
The Wharfedale Evo 4.4 speakers have been developed with technologies and quality materials to provide a high quality sound at an affordable price. Working to evolve the sound quality, Wharfedale have based the Evo series off concepts from their popular Elysian speakers to promise high-end sound but with a smaller price tag.
AMT Tweeter
Evo 4.4 incorporate the same technology as Wharfedale's flagship Elysian speakers such as the Air Motion transformer (AMT) tweeter, a high-frequency driver that provides minimal distortion and maximum accuracy by moving the air in a different way then a conventional dome.
Dynamic performance from anywhere in the room
The Evo 4.4 is designed with large scale sound in mind, ideal for home cinema systems. Combining the AMT tweeter with with a fabric dome mid-range the speakers ensures listeners are met with a dynamic reach and clear defined sound wherever they are in the room.
Excellent Sound
Alongside this the speakers reach great volumes with ease. The large floor-standing speakers are as impressive to look at as they are to listen to. Music will sound refined and superbly detailed; the Evo 4.4's truly showcase premium quality performance.

I read/watched all reviews I could find about these speakers and although I do not really pay attention to subjective flattering type reviews, I was able to read a bit between the lines. Additionally I searched for any measurements I could find and eventually when I was convinced these speakers were what I was looking for, I pressed the buy button.
One day in, listening to these speakers and I find them to hit all the right boxes for me...
My subjective experience so far:
1. Flat response, no artificial coloring just to "sound impressive for the first few days" like a lot of speakers do.
2. Bass is super clean and controlled, I hate "boominess". I do get all the bass I need from these speakers, no sub is needed (unless you watch movies of course, which I do not with these speakers). The instruments and voice do have a full body.
3. High frequencies (especially 3K which can cause me discomfort at loud levels) super controlled and pleasant with these speakers.
4. All instruments especially drums, sound realistic.
5. Male and female voices sound super realistic.
6. Depth and detail in the sound is extensive, actually this surprised me a bit st first. I was expecting new big speakers to blow me away with loudness levels, throw things at my face all the time. These EVOs did the opposite, they opened the wall behind them and gave more depth to the room. It took me a couple of hours to understand what was going on and now I cannot take enough of all this information.
7. Sound stage is excellent. Of course I have to experiment more with placement, but that may take a while, 25.6 Kg each makes you think a bit before you decide to move them around.
My audio pipeline is:
PC -(USB)-> Topping DX7 Pro -(XLR connectors)-> Nord Three 1ET400A ST -> EVO 4.4
I think this is a very clear and uncolored path, so what I am pushing to these speakers is as unbiased as it gets (relative speaking for the price), and these speakers do deliver. Very impressed.
And of course goes without saying that the service from audio affair was excellent so far. -

Bought these purely off the back of the What Hi-Fi awards given lack of listening options during lock down. Have not been disappointed. Apart from one of them arriving damaged (which did get sorted out over a week or so) then I'm super impressed with these. They're good in "family friendly" quiet mode (still very balanced with plenty of bass) and yet when you crank them up you can feel the sofa shaking!?
They're very easy on the ear but full of detail, space, precise instrument location, enough warmth to sound musical but not overly done and very well integrated sound across the drivers. They do need to sit in some space, our lounge is 20x15ft and they're about 1.5ft away from the back wall, slightly toed in, firing across the shorter width.
Hopefully with a few more hours run in time they'll sound even better.
I'm using them with a Naim Nait 5Si amp and Audiolab 6000N streamer (from Amazon HD/UHD source). A superb combination to my ears. My previous speakers were B&W CDM1-NT's (from early 2000's) which were very lively but lacked bass at lower volumes and tended on being overly bright. Much prefer these.
