Product Description
ATC SCM40 floorstanding loudspeakers are the flagship passive speakers in the SCM range, delivering a performance of speakers 'three or four times the price' according to Hi-Fi Choice magazine.
SCM Range
From our listening against many other potential loudspeakers that didn't make it into our product range, we'd have to agree! SCM40 sits above the award winning SCM7, SCM11 and SCM19 bookshelf models and offers an even more impressive sound with the greater bass extension you'd expect from a floorstanding design.
Please Note
These do require a power amplifier to get the best sound from them, ideally at least 75W per channel into 8 ohms. If your current amplifier isn't this powerful, we'd recommend trying a more powerful alternative (ideally a separate pre/power combo) - feel free to call or e-mail us for our recommendation.
Key Features
- New ATC designed and built 25mm soft dome HF unit with precision alloy waveguide
- ATC 164mm bass driver
- Massive optimised motor assembly.
- ATC Soft Dome mid-range driver
- Flat impedance curve allowing easy load for amplifiers.

'For an unexpurgated insight into your music, you’ll struggle to better these' (What Hi Fi?)
- 'Given a serious source and recording, the SCM40 is superb - we know no price rivals with this level of accuracy, speed and insight. It strings the rhythmic elements of the mix together brilliantly, punching out subtle dynamic inflections in a satisfying and visceral way.' Hi-Fi Choice Magazine

The Mk.1 versions of these speakers were excellent but really only for those who were into ultra precise sound. The Mk.2's are much more approachable with rounder upper and mid levels allied to a fuller bass. Still very precise with wonderful imaging, which throws the sound stage in front of the speaker plane. They need a reasonably powerful and high quality amplifier to make the most of them, allied to top quality cables. I use a Krell Evolution 2250e 250 wpc power amplifier which suits them perfectly and RiverCables Starflex cables.
